FLATWOUNDS: "never change them" HA!! That is true. I have flatwound bass strings on my Fender Precision basses that have outlasted my first two marriages!!

Kevin Parker's basslines are the best to be found in music in recent years.

I should mention that the palm mute technique with the pick can lead to fatigue and pain pretty quickly, even if it's perfect for guitar.
That's why the sponge/foam was originally used, to prevent hands falling off at hours long gigs and sessions.

That Feels Like We Only Go Backwards bass line isolated and played like that sounded it could be a 70s funk song

Btw McCartney DID use a pick on taxman, he pretty much always used a pick great video

Oh eirik, what a buterry sweet tone. I really love the bassline of "Feels like we only go backwards" and "It's not meant to be". Nice video!

The Origin fx pedal is a recreation of an 1176* compressor (to a point). In case someone is interested in recreating the sound here.

*there are plenty of plugins created after that unit

To get the McCartney sound on the Horner, have the rhythm on, bass off and treble on. Those are the settings for the three switches next to the volume knobs. That setting is what Paul always used on each Beatles song that has a hofner. So from please please me to help and on let it be. On the other albums, he used his rick except for the white album. He mainly used a fender jazz bass.

This is also great for playing classic dub/roots reggae. A lot of this reminds me of the Scientist, King Tubby etc

this is singlehandedly the most helpful audio production tutorial I've ever watched. Thank you for this.

King Gizzard are great practitioners of this method, too. They use a mustang/musicmaster with (apparently) fender flatwounds. Sounds very crisp and Can inspired

Your tip on the use of a compressor is genius. It really made my hollow-body violin bass sound rubbery with a slight tinge of pick attack. Thud.. thud.. thud.. Thank you very much sir.

One of the best examples I've found of this bass tone is in the game Bully from Rockstar. I personally achieved this tone by plugging into the Custom Channel of my Vibrolux with my P bass.

I weave a shoelace through the strings at the bridge, because finding the right foam is a hassle. Also I can tighten it however I want, so much more versatile, if harder to set up.

I own a Höfner Ignition Series Violin Bass with La Bella Flatwounds and you get that old school sound pretty easily 👌

You want authentic? Then put La bella flats on a pbass or jazz bass, then get some 3/8" tall X 1/2" wide black foam rubber weather stripping at Ace Hardware closed cell, medium density. Stick it on the bridge cover just like Fender did originally but you gotta put it right up against the bridge saddles. Voila authentic mute with just the right decay. Then just adjust your treble as desired.

I've been wondering about this tone, I hear it mostly in Black keys like "weight of love"

Also, a felt pick can help in achieving that classic sound, especially if playing a more modern bass.

This video is what I've been trying to find! I'm not a gear head and I didn't even know how to describe the sound I was imagining. Thank you so much
