How to Install Linux Mint 19 with Windows 10 | Dual Boot Linux and Windows [Easy Way]

Did you know that you can install Linux Mint and Windows 10 in one system together?

This process is called dual booting and this allows you to use more than one operating system in the same computer. You can choose which OS to use at the boot time, hence the term dual boot.

In this video tutorial, I have shown you how to dual-boot Linux Mint with Windows 10.

I advise having a Windows 10 live USB or recovery with you. Just in case, if something goes wrong in dual booting Linux Mint with Windows, you will have a way to recover.

One more thing, if your system came with Windows 8 and you upgraded to Windows 10, you may have to disable secure boot in the bios.

If you have any issues in installing Linux Mint with Windows, feel free to drop a comment.

Here you go buddy, one year and one month to the date and you're still helping people. Good job and do yourself a favor, stop thinking about your voice. It is perfectly fine, yes some accent but your are trying many negative comments here can't even speak one language. I'll like to see them trying yours. Great job and a big THANK YOU!

Pro tip, hold down SHIFT on either side of the keyboard before you press restart and keep holding it down until the computer restarts. 100% works in windows 10 when logged into the computer or even at the windows sign in screen if you click the little restart circle in the bottom right corner before you sign in to windows. This is how i have to get into the boot menu because my computer is too fast to press f12 during start up. I know, 2019 first world problems.

The video is great and very descriptive. Only thing I would recommend is to allocate more memory to the root partition("/"). This is for the people who would mainly use Linux instead of Windows. My root partition got ran out of space in 2 days and I was not able to install/update apps. I would recommend allocating half the space of original Linux partition or at least 50GB for the root.

This was super helpful in getting Linux Mint on my old gaming laptop. The one problem I encountered was the message: "The installer has detected that the following disks have mounted partitions: /dev/sda/ Do you want the installer to try and unmount the partitions on these disks before continuing?"

It didn't appear for you in the video, so by anyone else confused by this: The short answer is you should choose "no" to this question. I learned this from the Linux Mint forums.

Other than that, your video made installing the OS a breeze!

This dude gives the perfect definition for partitioning... This can be generalised across all ubuntu variants... Thankyou

A recommendation; you should link to your article from this YouTube video as well. Earlier I was having trouble finding back to the article but successfully found the video.

I will give you some honest advice on how to improve this presentation:
1. do not use music. It makes it difficult to stay focused on the subject.
2. talk slowly so that it is easier to follow for the listener

You have done the visual part very well. Thanks!

Hold shift before rebooting if you're having issues dual booting initially

best tutorial still in 2020. used it every time i install linux mint on a new machine.
You should just mention in the comments the possible raid issue with the sata in newer workstations.

There I was, trying to instal Linux Mint Mate as my first Linux installation ever and I was banging my head around the partitioning thingy. Then I watched this video and you, my now new good friend Foss, are the only person on YouTube who walked us through it and explained it in an easy to understand way. It was simple to do, but without your expert help, I was a lost babe in the woods. Thank you very much indeed Foss. Its blindly fast too. Cheers & subscribed.

I have a question: what is the benefit of partitioning your disk yourself? Why not let Linux handle it using the "partition alongside Windows " option?

Thank you for the video! I'm new to this so trying to figure out the partitioning was confusing for me, and you made the process a lot easier.

Thank you for the video it worked like charm . I made a few mistakes by going into BIOS mode instead of UEFI and finally figured it out .
