Don't Fall Into the Motorcycle Companies Trap!

Traction control, ABS, hill assistance, cornering ABS, Electronic suspension, ride-by-wire, and many more that I cannot even remember! Are all of these features really necessary? In this video, I will tell you how you can avoid this marketing trap and buy exactly what you need.

I guess that now you will expect me to have a speech against all of these systems, but instead, I plan to show you an alternative point of view that might help you see reality from a different angle.

I will ask you to think a bit and be absolutely honest with yourself and answer one simple question: Why did you start riding motorcycles?

Is it because you wanted to try all new technologies, to ride as fast as possible with all possible safety systems and the most modern adventure designs or you just wanted to feel the freedom that motorcycles give?

If you are really honest, which you should, because you cannot lie to yourself, the answer will be that everything you ask from the motorcycle is to give you some freedom right?

The freedom to move around, to travel, to fly, to twist the throttle to unknown places, or just to connect with people like you! Some people want to race, others to be mechanics and always try to improve their motorcycles by customizing them and making them better machines that will suit their riding styles.

Fair enough, we all have different dreams and expectations from our lives, but the main idea has always been the same, to ride as much as possible and complete our goals.

So far everyone will agree with me, but wait to listen to the rest of my speech, because it might completely change your mind might force you to press the dislike button and even unsubscribe from my channel because you don't like what I am saying.

As I said many times, my goal has never been to please everyone and make only content that you all wanted to watch. Even though I understand that it will bring me more money. This type of channels you can find many on YouTube nowadays.

This itself makes me unique or stupid, whatever you choose to be I honestly don't mind! I just want to see the world and if I can help a few people during this process the mission will be completed. That's why I keep making these videos.

Pavlin, I was reading all comments, and you must confess that almost everybody in these comments agree: ABS is good option. After 44 years of riding, (crazy fast machines when I was younger, and slow down a little beat last couple of years, because I am 60 years old man), ABS can save your life, when you are tired, sick, dehidrated, confused... on the bike. I am a road rider only, but I travel a lot, and belive me this is only thing I need on the bike. This feature save my life couple of times even I am good, experiance rider. Everything else is crappy for me. (Sorry fancy guys). By the way, your T7 has this thing, isn't it ? You must agree that. ABS is good feature for everybody (on the road, not off road), new or experience riders ! RIDE SAFE !

Very good video and I totally agree. I started riding over 45 years ago, with no electronic aids, abs, traction control etc. but simply learned how to physically, safely handle a motorcycle. And more importantly to learn the physical limits of the bike and of myself. As you said, you make a mistake and you learn not to make it again. You learn to be constantly alert to the surroundings and not get distracted by outside influences. Cheers and safe riding. Dan ✌️🏍🇨🇦

I grew up on older 1980's bikes and last year I brought a tenere700, after advice from a friend and also after watching your adventures through Russia. Best bike I've ever had and really enjoying the freedom it gives me. Thanks Pavlin.

You are correct! All my bikes have no rider aids, I have all the safety features needed from 43 years riding experience programed into my brain!

I’ve got none of these things on my KLX250, I’ve locked my wheels on wet asphalt twice, now I don’t anymore, I’ve fallen off while cornering on a roundabout (again on wet asphalt) but now I know what I should not do and what should I do better. I always wear full protective gear though, I’ve been always able to walk away unscathed so far. I might be a bad rider, but at least I’m learning from my mistakes I guess!

Started 55 years ago when a friend showed up at school on a bike (in retrospect, I think it was stolen), he let me ride. So much fun, I've never stopped. Current bike is V-Strom, comfort, easy, all I want. You are right, as usual. Please, do NOT stop sharing your opinions.

I totally agree that most of the new electronic features are just a way to increase the retail price of motorcycles and for the parts. I have a Honda CB500X 2013, and I am super happy with the bike. Reliable and easy to maintain. ABS is a must have, as sometimes you might need itt, but the rest I am ok without them.

Thanks to cruse control, I can drive longer than half an hour after a neck injury. Just the ability to reposition my hand a little every now and then works wonders.

Good vid. The only advancements I liked most on motorcycle tech was the electric starter and the EFI fuel injection. Now ABS is good but not necessary.

I started riding in the early 1970s. One of my first bikes was a Triumph Bonneville 650. This was a bare bones bike, gearshift on the right, kickstart only. I enjoyed riding that bike a lot. Decades later and multiple bikes later, I have a Vespa E4, lots of fun no ABS. I’m on my third ST1100 it is the ABS model great bike. I like the ABS model only for the better brakes(more pistons, larger disks). The bike also has traction control. I never experienced the traction control activated or the ABS activated. I have a Suzuki VStrom 650 as well, no ABS or traction control. I did upgrade the front brakes to 4 piston callipers and it brakes much better. I have installed aftermarket cruise control and I use that all the time. I’m OK not having multiple riding modes or touch screens….just keeping it simple. Thanks for the Video. We just hit 4°C today, the snow will be gone in four weeks. ;)

Completely agree Pavel! Bravo! 😎
As well, more than 70hp, for single person, is not necessary.
I had gs1200, africa 1, 000cc, now I am on NC750 and very much happy.
Cheers :)

Hello Pavlin! I was happy to see a picture on Vasil Levski in your room. Recently I visited the museum of him in Lovech. I have been around Bulgaria many times by using airplanes and four weel vehicles. Wish I could travel on two weels in the future after getting my license. In Sweden I heard that people from a motorcycle-School fell of their bikes when doing heavy breaking exercises. The reason was that they were pushing the abs-system too hard until it failed. I will continue watching your videos to inspire myself to get my drivers license done. Blago Daria /Henrik

Hello Sir, I enjoy Your videos as your views are filled with good sense.
I am a veteran world tour rider (72 yo) and covered almost a world tour on few stages. Started with BMW GS (80, 1000, 1150, 1200 and 1250) and finally switched over a Yamaha T700 in 2019 to reiterate Paris-Dakar 1985 that I raced. After that I covered South America in 2023 with a Royal Enfield Himalayan and then back to the T700 Rally 2023 which is indeed my ultimate choice for its beauty and its polyvalent efficiency.
Hope to meet you one day in the next future.
All the best.

I mostly agree, but ABS is a no-brainer. Sure you can stop "fast enough" 99% of the time, but that one time you can't, and either lock up the brakes or worse yet - hit something or someone - you'll be sorry you don't have it.

You’re right Pavlin, only safety systems when I first started riding was front and back brakes and crash helmet. Main thing is always to read the road in front of you. We all wanted to go fast as well, but there was no 100bhp bike on the market when I was 16 never mind 200bhp
