Nobody is mentioning how Scotty literally just advised us to execute a Bollywood style action moves if we ever find ourselves in this described scenario.

Wear gear, always have an escape path, don't ride faster than your skill level, and always ride as if no one else can see you.

I think we need a video of you doing the surfboard thing so we know what you mean

Never lay it down! When you lay it down, you’re out of control. When you’re upright, you can continue braking and reduce your speed. I’ve had close calls where I thought for sure there would be an impact and I was just braking to reduce the impact. Ten miles per hour less can save your life. But miraculously, they ended up being close calls instead of accidents. Never give up, your bike can do more than you think it can. Been riding 34 years.

Umm. As a motorcyclist here, do not dump your bike and attempt to ride it like a surf board. Attempt to progressively brake as much as possible and if you cannot stop, attempt to find an escape path. If there is no escape path and you cannot stop, find the path of least damage, stand up to avoid groin injury and move your thumbs around the bars to avoid breaking them when you get thrown from the bike.

Do not lay it down. Learn to maneuver. Take a safety course, it will save your life.

"just dump your bike and ride it like a surf board..." 🤣

this has gotta be a joke, right?

But actually don't. Your brakes on a motorcycle provide up to 1g of braking before you lift the rear on a short wheelbase bike or lock the front on a long wheelbase one. Dropping the bike like that is probably 1/5th the stopping force and leaves you with road rash and aa guaranteed totaled bike

Very few things are truly unavoidable on the road when you're only 3 feet wide or less. Most people who claim "I had to dump it" are actually saying they were outside their skill level in that moment and freaked out.

Dunno scotty, dumping a bike has advantages in very few situations. Using your brakes and tires to slow you down is much more efficient than using your butt. ABS is a lifesaver for sure.

I've never heard anyone ever recommend dumping your bike and riding it like a surfboard lol

I’ve taken the MSF rider course, and I can tell you that dumping the bike is definitely not a recommended maneuver

How to avoid crashing your motorcycle: crash your motorcycle.

Seems pretty straightforward to me.

....and always drive faster, not speeding though, than the cars. Car drivers usually "do not see you" so think for them. This has kept me alive for 40 odd years of bike riding.

As A Motorcycle Instructor I can say for sure do not dump your bike n ride it like a Just brake to a stop its much better and will stop you in a far shorter distance.

Yeah, dont lay your bike down to try avoiding a collision. Use your brakes or swerve out of the way.
