Protean Greninja is back in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet! Nerfed Greninja is still good as long as you are using Choice sets. Choice Specs Greninja does not care about the protean nerf as you can see in this video. I've still yet to test Life Orb, Expert Belt and Heavy Duty Boots so we'll see how those do in the future. How do you feel about Greninja in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet? It looked hella good on Pokemon Showdown!

They just HAD to make Meowscarada a single point faster than Gren. Powercreep is a bitch.

My favorite protean set was always scarf anyway so gren did well with protean nerf.
Ash Gren getting axed was a shame though.

I do think that HDB U-Turn w/ spikes can be pretty good still. After all it only cared about Ice coverage and Hydro, there's not even a Fini in the tier to stop it

The Protean nerf is pretty big. Not only are the movesets that Meows and Gren run have half half the moves they already have Stab on but they can effectively lose the other Stab if they go one of the pure types with Protean.

It makes me wish that Overgrow and it's clones made the power up at 50% and less HP, it would genuinely be a good ability. Imagine Gren coming in with 165 base power Stab Specs Hydro at half HP, even stonger than Battle Bond. It would legit make all the Starters, insanely more viable.

Funny thing, Greninja got back into OU in nat dex while Cinderacee is UU and Meowscarada got down to RU. I wonder what happened

I’m just happy people are excited to have it back. It’s been gone for 4-5 years! An entire gen has passed and no one could use it! This thing was OU back in gens 6&7 and I believe it will be OU this gen as well. The sourpusses that emphasize its nerf and say it won’t effect the meta can just sit down and watch Greninja put in work!
