The Ukrainian security service has reportedly claimed it was behind the killing of a senior Russia general in Moscow.

In an "embarrassment" for Vladimir Putin, Igor Kirillov, who was in charge of Russia's nuclear troops, was killed by an exploding scooter.

Sky's Defence Analyst Professor Michael Clarke assesses the significance of the killing.

how is this terrorism, russia? he is a legitimate military target in a legitimate military war, doing legitimate military planning and fighting. there are no innocent civilians involved.

Test 2
is an act of war, and not "terrorism".

Not sure I get this. If the killing of an enemy soldier is terrorism, how shall we describe a missile attack on a children's hospital?

Big countries make rules, and smaller countries are forced to break them. The British thought the Irish were cowardly, for hiding behind stone walls when ambushing the Black and Tans. The latter, of course, were in armoured cars.

According to this logic, the military government of Israel is a legitimate target for carrying a number of chemical attacks on civilians. They used white phosphorus on civilians almost daily in the recent war in Lebanon

Imagine if Iran/Syria or even Iraq did the same to a US general in the USA?

He was targeted because he was a war criminal right?

Russia must pay for the repair of the Portuguese embassy in Kiev and a war indemnity. Another war crime committed by Putin!

Calling it a terrorist attack is a mouthfull if this is a targeted attack. But if it involves collateral damage to civilians then that's different.

To escalate the war and keep it going no matter what. To cause more problems to Mr Trump's incoming government.

Things should not change if the US pulls out. European countries will have to help Ukraine ten fold. This is a war in Europe and Europeans should not look for a way out. Additionally, the Ukraine will have to implement full conscription. There are old men in the front lines who get two, ten-day passes twice a year. However, there are people in Kiev, dancing the night away. Don't expect NATO to help any time soon. Besides, I don't want my grandchildren going there, to fight the war, when there are young Ukrainian that should stand up. Not every person is a warrior, but there is a job to be done.
European countries stand up, yours could be invaded next. Give the Ukraine the weapons they need.

Why? Because it is a war between Russia and Ukraine and he was a target.

When will those scooters learn to read the "No Smoking" label?

There were several wars in human history where Leaders/Generals either fought each other or were killed to avoid unnecessary bloodshed of commoners. This is not a first. This was a military target in a conflict. In the begining of this conflict were FSB operatives not caught in Kyiv after failed attempts to capture/kill Ukrainian leaders?
