The reason why Tugboat was holding a sign that says "Zomboss is a gerk (jerk)" is because Patrice (or Nate) said that Tugboat, Nigel and Frogpants stole Zomboss' Pop Smarts. Pop Smarts=Zomboss' pop tarts.

Also the whole purpose of pvz3 was to promote the comics considering how Patrice and Twister are in the game (I’m not quite sure if Nate is in the games)
