In October 2021, the Brazilian Navy tall ship Cisne Branco collided with a bridge over the Guayas River in Ecuador. Unfortunately, a tugboat proved to be unhelpful when attempting to assist the tall ship, leading to its eventual capsizing. Fortunately, the crew of the tugboat managed to save themselves, and the situation took a humorous turn.

That is a beautiful barque military vessel. I hope not too damage was done to this historic ship. Strong current is an under statement, those waters look to be moving at around 6 knots.

Not sure what's funny about surviving a terrifying event like capsizing. And I imagine that navy ship is a legacy ship like our U.S.S Constitution.

Too much current and not enough tug boat. That’s a shame to damage such a beautiful sailing vessel.

That bridge is a pedestrian bridge between Guayaquil and Santay island. The river in that spot is tidal and has quite nasty currents especially when the tide is going out. When I walked over it last year i would have guessed the current at about 10-12 knots.

When a lot of 🤦🏻‍♂️ people dont realize an old navy ship is still a navy ship, many times used for cadets training and not obviously as a warship.

Man that was the funniest thing I've seen all day. The way those guys came so close to death. Hilarious indeed.

the tug didn't capsize, it turtled, capsizing is when it only goes on its side. it's a shame neither boat could disconnect the line, but it was probably already dangerously tight when they realized the issue. that tall ship is gorgeous!

1. At least 2 dozen navies around the world use sail training ships. It's not weird.
2. The pilot messed up. The tug first used was too small for the ships tonnage.

This vessel lost her propulsion engine as she approached the drawbridge. She was basically adrift in the river. Sorry, but I fail to see any humor in the damaging and near sinking of such an iconic vessel, not to mention the capsizing of a tug boat that is needed for the daily operations of the port. Not to mention the near drowning of its crew.
