I remember few years back, how companies were banging their head when open source became a hype because they thought they were going to lose an edge with better community software on which they cant put price on. I remember the the "sponsored" articles. Then I also remember, how within few months, their anti-openSource talks took a U-turn to praising open source. Because by then they learnt how it can benefit them and save them cost and still continue with the price.

Correction, open source doesn't always mean free
It just means the source code is available to see but doesn't always mean it's free e.g. Red Hat Linux

Funny thing, there was a single piece of open source software that was used by a ton of high level tech companies (think Amazon, Facebook, etc.). The owner of it had a project go sideways and decided to remove ALL of his projects from the web, this crippled the servers for the companies for about 5 hours. They didn’t go down, but they were not properly reporting to other servers. Someone finally found the owner and asked him to put it back to fix the issue.

Open source and the kindness of software community has restored my faith in humanity. As an open source contributor it does cost the dev time and energy but is one of the most satisfying philanthropies. I wish we could apply the open source nature of software to more industries and societies.

Open source is great! Sometimes, too much libraries puts us in dependency hell. We just learn the implementation of some libraries we can't install and make our own libraries.
