Well, the problem I see with humanoid-based random avatars is that lots of people might not want to have an avatar that doesn't look like them. With initials, or random patterns or non-human characters, this problem doesn't really exist.

For anyone wondering about how this works:

Basically the text input becomes the seed to a random number generator. All the facial properties are then randomly picked from a list of noses, eyes and so on, defined using SVG. Then, just concat the parts together and voila👌

I was thinking of doing something like this and I thought I have to generate about 50 avatars from midjourney and then add a random number function to assign a random picture to the user but this saved the day. 😭🐐

I think giving the user a very specific cartoon human avatar is a bad idea. You can offend people doing this. A random robot/animal/creature could be ok, but letter/color is best (as Youtube does). As an alternative, on the signup stage give them an easy way to pick a simple avatar that they personally like.

The period tracker app, Flo, has randomly assigned animals. They’re all pretty cute, and there’s colour variation, so it’s pretty rare you’ll run into someone with the exact same avitar

Any recommendations on other channels similar to Fireship? Particularly those that show new features/programs to stay updated on tech via YouTube?
