One thing to mention is that often a BIOS update clears all BIOS settings as it redetects all hardware (during this process, it may appear that the system is turned off, be patient and don't manually unplug/power cycle your computer), unless you back them up to a thumb drive or something (for more details, refer to the motherboard's manual)

My BIOS is the same version but different date, should I still update it?

I did the same with my BIOS by going to HP. Great info Gilles Thanks : ) Never did any of this on my old 8.1. Lesson learnt.
