I did 8 years, got my E-6. Early 2000’s. Afghanistan twice. I was part of Operation Anaconda. I did all the things you could want to do in the Infantry. What my wife couldn’t handle was me going to Iraq 1, 2, 3 or 4 times, like my buddies did after I was gone. I feel this deep in my soul.

I had high 90s on the ASVAB and joined the Air Force to be a laser systems analyst working on the Strategic Defense Initiative (a.k.a. Star Wars Project). Then Congress didn't fund it and I ended up in security forces - but I was on an airborne fireteam that escorted priority A convoys, so I was OK with it. At my 10-year mark I made E-6 and got a mandatory retraining notice and ended up as a photojournalist (public affairs rep.). It was a great job. I retired at 38 as an E-7 and now I teach high school business classes. In 8 years I can retire from teaching, and I'll have a teaching pension in addition to my military retirement pay.

Scored a 94, went with Lab Tech (68K), HATED it, went 13B. Best decision I made in the Army.

“11B/11C doesn’t translate to a good civilian job” ok? It’s not supposed to it’s a COMBAT MOS, it is literally the definition of the army but who said you can’t get your degree while you’re in? Find the answer to yes.

Honestly being an infantryman was and still is probably one of the greatest feelings I've ever experienced in the military. The thing that sucks is leaving the dudes that you have grown up with watching the men that you love. You spend literally 24 hours stable. No you'll never find that and anything else that you do

I had the same conversation with my recruiter. I still chose infantry. I had a background in shooting, hunting and firearms in general and i felt my talents could help keep fellow infantrymen alive. It translates fine into the civilian world you just have to know how to market it. Being able to keep your cool in high stress situations and lead fellow infantrymen, even at the squad level shows a LOT of character and dedication. Dont let the civilian world trick you into thinking less of yourself for choosing 11B/11C.

I was infantry in the 80s, and it led to a job in law enforcement when I got out. It looks good on your resume. Good luck. 👍

Being a grunt then lat moving gets you instant respect in your new MOS field. Or it did for me.

I scored 98 with a GT of 138, and I picked Infantry. Alot of things don't transfer to civilian certifications. Why join if you can't blow stuff up?

Someone has to do the dirty work. That is why I chose Infantry.

I pick training as a X-ray technologist in the Army. Had part time civilian x-ray job during last year of military service. The worked for 15 yrs after i got out. Get training that’s transferable to civi life

It's a pity that people with so much potential don't go after it

I did 3 years in the infantry, got out because I was also airborne and my legs got ducked up, and since I only signed for 4 they just MEB'd me. The brotherhood trauma bonding is totally real, the people you train with will be some of the best friends of your life. I will tell you though, going to my unit for the first time though, they had just gotten back from JRTC, and failed sue to low turn out. Nothing more of a motivation killer then getting to you unit, being told you're non deployable, then wasting your time for your whole contract LARPing.

My son is in reception (bootcamp) phase; MOS Infantry. He also scored high with a sports background and wanted to maintain his very active lifestyle; track, cross country, basketball. He chose Infantry, though I’m a worry wart, I am so very proud.

Thank you to all that are serving, have served or are in the process of becoming active members of our U.S. military. ❤
