In our latest Elder Scrolls video we give you a complete guide to the Altmer, the high elves.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is an open world action role-playing video game developed by Bethesda Game Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks. It is the fifth main installment in The Elder Scrolls series, following The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, and was released worldwide for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on November 11, 2011.

The game's main story revolves around the player character and their quest to defeat Alduin the World-Eater, a dragon who is prophesied to destroy the world. The videogame is set two hundred years after the events of Oblivion, and takes place in the fictional province of Skyrim. Over the course of the game, the player completes quests and develops the character by improving skills. The game continues the open world tradition of its predecessors by allowing the player to travel anywhere in the game world at any time, and to ignore or postpone the main storyline indefinitely.

Have you heard of the high elves? An Oblivion NPC says to me, who is playing a high elf.

It's strange that the Altmer are so stunningly beautiful and live in such a warm, beautiful land but they themselves are often cold, haughty, and at times even cruel.

Eso summerset footage without ppl running around. Impressive

You'd think a thousand year lifespan would dim their desire to become immortal.

"Have you heard of the High Elves?"
Me after watching this video: Ah, I see you are a man of culture as well!

Maybe the real Aldmeris is the friends you make along the way?

As someone who enjoys playing as High Elf in the games, I wish Bethesda hadn't painted the Altmer and elves in general to be the go-to villains of the Elder Scrolls universe with Oblivion and Skyrim. I hope future games can do to them a bit of what Morrowind did to the Dunmer and add more detail and complexity to their mythology and society. (ESO does that to an extent, but I want more!)

I love Summerset in ESO. It's one of the most beautiful places I've seen in a video game and the music just adds to it.

This video makes me really appreciate the nice High Elves in Oblivion since they were probably exiled to the mainland. I guess they learned that everyone is equal in the Arena.

I think the fact that it's a tenet of Altmer culture to sit down a discuss problems before they come to blows is pretty underrated as far as lore goes. Finally a race that doesn't start with throwing axes at each other.

Elves in the elder scrolls are a lot more interesting than in most fantasy settings.

I would imagine obsession with purity, bloodlines and never leaving Summerset is highly exaggerated description of life among nobility, not everyday altmer

Im a Nord through and through but have a vast interest in the Altmer. ESO did an amazing job with them. Glad they get a fair swing in ESO as opposed to Skyrim

High elves are by far my favorite Elder Scrolls race, I see many similarities with Tolkiens Noldor elves and the blood elves from wow(in terms of elitist character, artistic elegance, affiliation to magic, martial prowess, etc)
They have so much RP potential, from being a divine protector of Tamriel to becoming an elven supremacist or a ruthless lord.
Dark elves are probably my second favorite race but something doesn't feel right about them being allies with the Argonians and fighting their elven brethren.

My favourite race, though sometimes I feel like I am the only one who likes them.

Altmer are so underrated. A lot of people probably see them as generic Tolkien ripoffs, but I want more.
