I'll never forget that January morning. It was my 1st day of college and I had just come home from my morning classes and stopped to watch with my Dad before getting ready to go to work. I'll never forget thr faces of the families that were there viewing their loved ones space flight. The sheer grief on their faces was just unbelievable.
God Bless all the astronauts and their Families.

Watched it in school along with millions of other kids because there was a teacher aboard. Rest in peace.

Worst part was that it could have been completely avoided if the higher ups didn't rush the launch

When upper management doesn’t heed the warnings of those who know the consequences and probabilities…

I lived in Cocoa Beach, FL at this time. I can still remember how cold that morning was. There was even frost on the grass. The launch was very important news since it would have been the first time a civilian went to space. Our principle had us all go outside and watch the launch in the distance. We watched as the shuttle went up and then we saw a large ball of white smoke. A couple seconds later there was a loud rumble and bang. I can remember the teacher was telling us that the smoke was just the booster rockets separating. We had no idea what happened until we went back to class. We only found out the shuttle exploded when Ronald Regan's speech was played through our PA system. The Shockwave knocked out a couple of our windows at our house. I will never forgot that day...

I watched this live in school almost 40 years ago and I'll never forget this, it's engrained in my memory like a video and feels like just yesterday

I'm 54 and will likely forget many things as I get older but this day and watching it happen is burned into my brain.

I remember watching this in 3rd grade my favorite teacher Mrs. Cohen came and covered my eyes. She knew I wanted to be an Astronaut.

I asked my science teacher if they felt anything or was still alive. She screamed at me and told me to leave the class for asking such a horrible question. To find out that the front part of the Suttle was intacted till it hit the sea. With a documentary saying it was possible someone could have stayed Conscious down to the sea.. i always wanted to ask that teacher why it was wrong to ask a question that had some truth to it.

The messed up part is the guy trying to scrap the mission because of the known flaw was blacklisted.

I remember the Challenger Tragedy like it was yesterday. We were watching it live in my 9th grade Social Studies class with Mr Kingsberry . And just a week later Mr Kingsberry was playing Basketball with a group of us students to settle a bet when he suffered a massive heart attack and died in front of us all. It was a very rough week for all of us. The Challenger Tragedy and then the loss of a amazing teacher. RIP crew And you too Mr K. RIP

That poor crew. Bad enough the incompetence of men in suits not listening to engineers killed them. But the fact they survived the explosion and prepped for a hard landing in the crew capsule, only to die on impact with the water... that's just horrible. :(

Sadly not the last crew to die due to someone in a suit not listening to engineers :(

Watched it live with my Flight Commander, he was college roommates with one of the Astronauts. He couldn't immediately comprehend the gravity of it and I remember him asking me what happened several times. Felt so sorry for that experience, was unbelievable.

Out of school on a snow day, in NE Tennessee. I was at a friend's house, we came inside to warm up and watch the launch, never expecting it turn out the way it did. We sat stunned for what seemed like hours.
