The engineers responsible for monitoring the O rings would not approve launch. Higher managers decided otherwise and overuled them.

Actually, Feynman did nothing. The problem was already known by the engineers. Feynman gave a simple demonstration to show what had happened

The engineers warned NASA that they should never launch if the ambient temperature fell below a certain threshold; they didn't follow the engineering specification, so NASA management was to blame for the disaster.

It’s amazing how people get these things to work 99% of the time though...there’s so many intricacies and things that could go wrong

Saying this put Feynman on the map is the understatement of the decade.

There were engineers at NASA who told those in charge of the launching that there were problems with the shuttle but nobody listened

It wasn't a mystery to anyone in the know within NASA's engineering circles either. Numerous engineers expressed grave concerns to their management of the dangers of flying the shuttle in such cold conditions. Management ignored their concerns because they were more concerned with keeping a faster launch cadence after Congressional complaints

They were warned but pressures led to the failure

This is the problem with YouTube contrived shorts
one could argue that the real issue was operating the system outside its temperature tolerance that is a management issue
Cheers

For a successful technology, Nature must take precedence over public relations; for nature cannot be fooled - Richard Feynman

The O-rings didn't fail the launch occurred under parameters outside of their tolerances

How many times were those O Rings used? I think you will find that they were sold as, and guaranteed for, single-use but had been re-used on several launches before being exposed to the extreme weather conditions you describe when they failed.

No... 😂 Richard Fineman was a physicist on the Manhattan project. His work in quantum electrodynamics put him on the map. FFS 😂

my mom was in one of the crew members daughters class. They were in 5th grade class watching it live on TV. Then it happened. It exploded. She felt and still feels so bad for the daughter and the 7 lives lost. I can’t believe this could’ve been avoided too.

Actually Dr Sally Ride told General Kutyna and he told Feynman.

Wait Feynman started with solving the challenge disaster??? What a guy!

Are you kidding? This was a footnote in Feynman's career. More uninformed dribble on YouTube.

Greed was the only thing that killed those brave astronouts and we named the biggest teleskope in space after that narcissist.
Many engineers beged the launch should be moved do to to cold weather, he did not care!

Richard Feynman didn't discover this. It was told to him by another investigator.

Wasn’t just the oring. It was the o-band. And the o-band caused the structural failure of the right srb starting from launch
