Picard (Patrick Stewart) finds Kirk (William Shatner) buried in rubble.

FILM DESCRIPTION:
The seventh Star Trek feature passed the torch to a new crew. Decades after the original "Trek," the skipper of the fourth USS Enterprise is Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart), who investigates a massacre at a science outpost. The only survivor is Dr. Soran (Malcolm McDowall), who perpetrated the event to cover up his invention: a bomb he launches into a nearby sun, exploding it. As Soran escapes with Klingon cronies, Picard learns that Soran's plan is to summon a heavenly energy ribbon called the Nexus. Those who enter it live forever with every wish fulfilled. Attempting to stop Soran, Picard ends up inside the Nexus, where he discovers former captain James T. Kirk (William Shatner), believed to have been killed in an accident 78 years earlier.

He died doing what he loved; Punching people in the face on a cheap, orange rock planet set like the original TV show.

Highly underrated death scene imo. Ignoring whether you wanted him to die or not and the circumstances, it was an awesome performance. It's the change on his face as he realises it's all over, he's going to die. Oh my.

The way Kirk's face transforms from joy to ashtonishment, that he's just realized his life is over after doding death for 50 years is remarkable. Shatner can really pull off a dramatic preformance without chewing the scenery, although the overacting is why we fell in love with the Jim Kirk character in the first place.

"It was...fun."
BEST dying words ever.
Live long...and prosper.
Rest In Peace, Captain James Tiberius Kirk.

"I've always known I'd die alone."

This is the line that stuck with me when Kirk died. All his friends, his shipmates, really his family, are all gone. Even in this point in time, 2371, I believe (though I may be mistaken) even Spock had already been pulled into the alternate timeline. Captain James T. Kirk was, in every sense, the only one left. I always imagined after his death he'd wakeup, so to speak, back on the bridge with all his friends awaiting him. Kind of sappy, and I would never have wanted to see it filmed, but for my own personal headcanon, it's somewhat uplifting.

Kirk always knew he would die alone without spock or Mccoy by his side thus unintentionally fufilling his prophecy.

Of all the captains we've seen throughout the franchise, he was the most... human.

After my little brother passed at 40 years old, I took flowers to the site the day after the funeral. I stood there thinking and remembering for what I thought was a few minutes. The caretaker tapped me on the shoulder and told me they were closing the gates at 9. It was almost dark and I had been there for almost 5 hours. So I can see why Picard stood by Kirk's site for so long.

The subtle change in his face when he realises he is dying is haunting. Brilliantly acted death scene.

"Oh my"

Either he's amazed that one of these escapades has finally proved fatal for him or he sees something truly incredible in his last moments.

The look on Picard's face...watching a legend die.
Still crying over this scene.

The kind of send-off Kirk would want. Bones did say he would die on a bridge....perhaps under one counts. Oh my.

"did we make a difference" and 'It was fun" those are good final lines for the career of a great character and actor who inspired tens of millions of people to go where they had never gone before.

In a previous movie, can't remember which one, Kirk told Spock, I think, that he knows he would never die as long as he was with him - when he dies he would die alone hence, the "Oh My." He realized Spock wasn't with him.
