FILM DESCRIPTION:
The seventh Star Trek feature passed the torch to a new crew. Decades after the original "Trek," the skipper of the fourth USS Enterprise is Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart), who investigates a massacre at a science outpost. The only survivor is Dr. Soran (Malcolm McDowall), who perpetrated the event to cover up his invention: a bomb he launches into a nearby sun, exploding it. As Soran escapes with Klingon cronies, Picard learns that Soran's plan is to summon a heavenly energy ribbon called the Nexus. Those who enter it live forever with every wish fulfilled. Attempting to stop Soran, Picard ends up inside the Nexus, where he discovers former captain James T. Kirk (William Shatner), believed to have been killed in an accident 78 years earlier.

One of the best overall special effects created for films, using several techniques cleverly combined. What makes this effect so good? I believe it! Yes I believe a billion ton spaceship just crashlanded on a planet. I believe every second of it.
It's all in the sounds. This scene on the big screen. Wow

No matter how many times I've watched this, and I've watched the movie a lot, I ALWAYS get goosebumps and tears in my eyes. They did it so amazingly well. I remember seeing it in the theatre on opening night and everyone just sat in shock as this was happening. I swear the temperaure dropped a few degrees and there wasn't a single sound from anyone all the way through the scene. One of the most amazing theatrical experiences ever.

This has dated well. If they had used the CGI of the time it would look awful now. This looks more believable than Star Wars: Phantom Menace and it predates it by many years. Models all the way.
