if you're a concept artist, you have to deal with 2 types of people:
1. do something cool
2. do exactly what i want
second type is hell, mostly.

Me, who doesn't even know what a concept artist does: *interesting*

As someone who recently reviewed 300+ interviews for an environment artist position, I can attest to the fact that your portfolio has to be relevant. A lot of people had nothing but pretty girls or a little bit of everything. I cannot judge an artist by one or two pieces. The artist we hired has 100's of different environment concepts! Because of the number of concepts that I saw, I am confident that he will deliver solid concepts in a timely manner, thus saving our small company money.

Anyone can correct me if I’m wrong, but I feel like on the internet when I see people say they want to be a concept artist what they really mean is becoming an illustrator. I feel like a lot of people see other people’s finished images on diviantart and Pinterest they get a false idea what concept art really is.

"So you want to become an illustrator" should be the next video ;)

The quote at 7:50-8:06 is a quote I'd bring for the rest of my art journey. I'm 17 and hoping to become an artist full time. I keep getting advised that 'art is not a competition' n shit, when in the professional world it actually is.

The layoffs part was actually so sad to hear. They hire as much ppl to work on the game as possible and then when its ready to ship they just get fired cuz they aren't needed anymore, its such an asshole move from the company

I feel like I've got a lot of ideas but not the focus. I need to buckle down, stop procrastinating and actually start my portfolio

I want to be an illustrator but I feel the need to learn a bit of landscape and environmental art so I can properly convey the scene I want to portray. But then again, I also feel like spreading myself too thin or taking too much that I can handle. T_T

Can you do a tutorial on how to create environments using the methods that you demonstrated in this video?

It’s very interesting and cool how you’re creating all of this but I wonder what tools and techniques you’re using to make it happen.

I smiled the entire way through the video. I'm 14 and have been unsure on what I've been wanting to do for my future career and only recently heard of concept art. Now after some research, it sounds perfect. Is this what people call their 'dream job'? This motivated me a lot to start working on more specific skills :) Thanks

Me being in my senior year of highschool, only just now realizing what I wanna be, with an intense creativity to draw something new everyday, this video helped me so much!

i wonder if it's possible to land the first job at 35 years old ( while having decent skills ) due to a complicated path . i'm in that situation and i'm a bit ashamed of my age .Born in 85, at 20's in 2005, i didn't even know concept art was a thing xd nowadays at 15's years old and you tube, you can haev a lot of ressources to learn.

I remember Karla Ortiz saying she was asked if she wanted to move to LA to work for Marvel. She said no, and they said that’s fine - she could work from home. Haha Just goes to show that if you’re really f’n good you may not need to relocate. 😄

I've just got rejected from my dream college. I've wanted to work as character concept artist for years, so it broke me. Now I'm facing a difficult choice between giving up on my dreams or waiting another year and participate again. Your video brought me to tears and made me realize that I need to push forward, work harder, develop myself. I'll do everything to achieve my goal, despite the failures. Thank you, Marc
