Who is Ron Spomer
For 44 years I’ve had the good fortune to photograph and write about my passion – the outdoor life. Wild creatures and wild places have always stirred me – from the first flushing pheasant that frightened me out of my socks in grandpa’s cornfield to the last whitetail that dismissed me with a wag of its tail. In my attempts to connect with this natural wonder, to become an integral part of our ecosystem and capture a bit of its mystery, I’ve photographed, hiked, hunted, birded, and fished across much of this planet. I've seen the beauty that everyone should see, survived adventures that everyone should experience. I may not have climbed the highest mountains, canoed the wildest rivers, caught the largest fish or shot the biggest bucks, but I’ve tried. Perhaps you have, too. And that’s the essential thing. Being out there, an active participant in our outdoor world.

Ackley got his best results with 30-40 Kraig. almost 308 Winchester velocity.

I’m a huge fan of the 7mm. my question is it worth getting the 7mm PRC in regards to hunting big game over the 7mm rem mag?

These three talked about calibers are quite possibly the three best long range deer hunting calibers there are. If they are not it sure is close.

Any of those 7mm magnums are good all around big game calibers. If I was getting one today I’d probably get a 7prc just because you range off bullets should be larger to choose from. I definitely like heavier bullets, better BC and carries more energy downrange

With a .270, you just shoot whatever needs shot and fuggetabout all the technical drama, Jack O'Connor did that for us years ago. (there hasn't been anything better yet)

When your picking the nitty gritty out of things, learning to be a better marksman is the real difference, when your picking miniscule differences the rifle and shooter are what actually matters

I have really good luck with my 7mm especially when I reload it myself.

New guns in 7 rm are having 1-8 twist now so i shoot the 180 in the new rem 700

7 mm mag is supposed to have a faster rifle twist and shoot 180 grain bullet at 3, 000fps

Love the Channel. 7 PRC is less Case Capacity than 7 Mag and is having Pressure Problems. Is it the Chamber to Tight? 7 Mag shoots 180 Grain Bullets. No Pressure Problems. .6 200 yrds. 1979 700 model

Being an oldster I like the old 7mm Remington Magnum as it did win the Original Pennsylvania 1000 yard benchrest club match in 1972 I believe.

Why are we worried about the 280 AI, why is nobody ackley improving the 7prc. A little extra capacity, then it should really go toe to toe with the 7 rem mag.

.280 ai is way too much of a niche cartridge for me.

I have never seen an AI rifle in real life, only ever seen one box of AI rounds, that was at a specialty gun shop that has my .243 WSSM ammunition. Unless you want to reload, do not buy gimmick calibers. If you want something exotic, buy a Weatherby, they will always sell ammo for it. If I had bought a regular ole .243 I wouldn’t be paying $80.00 a box. How do you tell if it’s not a gimmick? When you physically see three different brands of rifle in that caliber. When you see ammunition from three different manufacturers in different bullet weights. Then it’s no longer a gimmick.

We obcess to much about cartridge talk and speculation. Few folks have enough skill to take advantage of any advantages, it's a selling/marketing point. The money isn't best spent on new rifles but rather on better optics and boots and bullets to reload and practice. But I'm not a gunwriter who talks about brass vessels that simply contain an chemical form of gunpowder .
