when i first figured out mewing i used to say that improving the symmetry is kinda like the sky limit in minecraft. The closer you get to it the less variations are possible.

Omg my face is getting more grown and beautiful, I'm pleasantly surprised because I used to be a skeptic but omg I've only been mowing for two years with minimal effort, I didn't push hard or anything I didn't even try that hard it works guy! My jaws were symmetrical before orthodontics but now thanks to braces and elastics, my orthodontist made my left jaw further back and higher up/shorter than the right jaw bone. My teeth and entire face are asymmetrical now, thanks orthodontics. (That's ignoring the fact that my entire face is ruined because my orthodontist massively recessed my maxilla.)

This makes me sad, when I was a kid I doctors told me that i have more symmetrical face than avarage (i have cleft palate so they looked how my face grew) then I got braces in elementary school and they made look avarage and I started to have jaw problems, migraines and gave me dark circles, my face longated and my nose started to look big and smile wonky :c

In my childhood I mostly slept on my right side facing the wall of the room because I was scared of the dark. Now, my left side is slightly slimmer than my right side. Now I'm trying to correct that, but apparently my heart hurts when sleeping on my left side.

I'm seeing some orthodontists next week to hopefully have my crooked teeth, narrow pallet and recessed jaw addressed. The last orthodontist I consulted with told me jaw surgery is the only way I'll achieve a perfect result, but he wasn't keen on the idea of referring me to a surgeon. He instead insisted I have braces applied for a few years, during which I routinely come into his practice and have the insides of my teeth shaved away to gradually create the space needed to achieve a correct bite. I've decided that I need the opinions of more specialists before I commit to any treatment. I think I'd prefer to have the surgery done, opposed to settling for an artificial fix.

Braces gave me a toothless old lady look ( but I have teeth minus 8) which I didn't have as a kid, plus my teeth are crooked again. Plus it hurt like hell in the process. Why aren't we more educated about consequences and other options.

My mom is muslim, and muslims have this thing with doing things with right hand, right foot, and sleeping the right side cause It’s “right” Idk If other muslims did / do this but yeah all of my 4 other siblings have a slight deeper eye bag on the right eye and a little change In the jaw like ALL of us have that same thing, so I know my children are the most luckiest and they will have amazing faces and posture in the future.

What part of the mouth is the "flange"? Very mixed results come up when i google it. Is it the same as the "buccual flange"?


English isn't my native language so i've never even seen or heard the word before.

I understand that almost everyone has some degree of asymmetry but when would it be considered severe? Is there a way to measure for it? My ramus is around 5 mm longer on the left than the right, all of the bones (mandible, zygo, orbital rims) are more forward grown, palate looks a bit wider on the left too. My eyes and ears align though.

I have braces and elastics on but it made my face and jaw more asymmetrical, I had a retainer and rubber bands before my braces treatment and my face was so symmetrical. Now it’s just asymmetrical and my right jaw is inside while my left side is outside :(

Dear Dr Mew,
Please can you clarify, if the front teeth bite edge-to-edge, and the jaw is asymmetrical, is it too late to use a 'BioBlock upper expansion appliance' (or other device) to correct this if you are over 40?
