Learning How to Whistle Extremely Loud (Taxi Whistle)

In this video, I learn how to taxi whistle (how to whistle with your hands/fingers) LOUDER than a real whistle and my CAR HORN, using two (2) different methods!

The taxi whistle is a really cool skill that I have wanted to learn for a long time. And since this channel is (hopefully going to be) all about skill learning, I finally decided to take the time to learn this useful and interesting skill!

At first, it felt like I was making absolutely no progress at all. I honestly thought that my tongue was too big or my mouth shape was making it impossible to taxi whistle. But through a ton of trial and error, a bit of slobbering on my fingers, and almost passing out from exhaling so hard, I finally achieved a clean and proper taxi whistle! And the sound of it is almost deafening! 😵 With a bit of practice and determination, I was able to learn the taxi whistle in one day, and I am now able to get a STRONG, CONSISTENT sound.

If you do attempt to learn the taxi whistle, be sure to have clean fingers before putting them in your mouth! We still are in the middle of a [WORLD EVENT]. 🧼✅🦠🚫

I learned this over the past 2 days. The things that helped me most were:
1. Push your fingers further into your tongue quickly as you blow
2. Wet your lips but keep your fingers dry
3. Put your fingers right at the tip of your tongue

I decided to try to teach an old dog new tricks last winter, so I taught myself to do an ear-splitting whistle. It took a long time, but once I started getting anything near a whistle out of it, I worked even harder to fully develop it. Who wants to stick their fingers in their mouth every time want to whistle. Not me! You never know WHERE those fingers have been, so I taught myself to do it without using my fingers. Here is a pointer for you to get it quicker. Think of saying the word THISTLE when you do it and your lips and tongue will be very close to the right place. So say thistle and try to make it into a whistle. Wrap your gums tightly over your teeth both on top and bottom, as if you were pretending you had no teeth. I can reach 111 decibels! Another thing to do to make it better and louder is to vary the pitch you are shooting for rather than a single tone. This gets you into the right spot. Think of the two tone whistle you have heard when people are trying to get attention by whistling. There is a reason it is done that way, because you can do it better. Both the lower to higher pitch (hailing a taxi) and the ruder wolf whistle (higher to lower pitch) are done this way and it gets you into the right spot by varying the pitch. If I can teach myself to do this at 71, you can do it too! Currently I am perfecting doing it while running in the mountains, which I do 5 days a week.
