I tried for an hour. Woke up in the ER. I apparently passed out from no oxygen. The nurse asked me what happened. I told her I was trying to whistle with my fingers but was a dismal failure. She then says, "You mean like this?" Now I can't hear anymore.

For anyone who's struggling, I found that no matter how many videos you watch or how many articles you read, the principles behind the whistle remain the same. It's all about finding your own personal sweet spot, and once you find it, you'll never forget. I was just about to give up for good when I suddenly (and very randomly) found the perfect combination of tongue curl and finger placement to get a nice loud whistle. Just keep at it!
Art of Manliness thanks for a very helpful video!

I FINALLY FIGURED IT The one secret that I couldn’t find in any videos is that the idea of curving your tongue over is to get the tongue out of the way, *not* to make air flow over it in any way. So relax your tongue and just let it naturally push against your fingers and stay in the bottom of your mouth—don’t use any muscles in your tongue at all. If you do this, all the other tips they give you start working.
Also found that the more of an ‘ok’ symbol I did with the 2 finger version, the easier it became to whistle.
Pls like if this works for you so more ppl can see it! It is so satisfying to have finally learned how to do this.

My dad is asking me
“Are you drunk?”

I'll be damned. It works. Scared the neighbor's dog and possibly gave the wrong idea to a passing jogger, but it works.

49 years of wondering how this worked . . . 7 minutes after watching this video I got my first whistle. After 15 minutes I could do it reliably. Thanks!

For years, I've been trying to find out how to do this by myself, and after a few minutes, I got my first whistle. It stopped working for a little, but now I can whistle like this much better but still not perfect, lol.
Thank you for making my dreams come true!

Safety instruction: Don't try this next to a cat. Mine thought I was hissing at her, went mad and clawed me XD

DUDE!!!! I've been trying for over 50 years to learn how to whistle like this. My dad had the most awesome whistle. He would whistle and we would come running from everywhere. 2 strong memories. First, I was about 7, living in Newark, NJ. I usually hung out with the older kids. We were playing touch football. Our block against the next block over. We were playing them on their block. My dad blew his unique whistle. The older guys from our block grabbed me and we ran to see what my father wanted. I was amazed at that. Second, I'm 20 years old and was downtown Newark. It was the first of the month, which we called mothers day. Downtown was packed. I was about a block away from the main intersection downtown. I was talking to some friends and heard my father's whistle. I can't see him, but followed the sound. When I got to my father, he had this look on his face. It looked to me like pride. It was a smerkish grin. He was calling me because my girlfriend at the time, saw him and asked had he seen me. I then realized that he was smirking because he knew that his training had sunk in. Will never forget that considering he passed away last year. So, learning how to whistle really means a lot to me. Thanks bro.

I’ve been the first 17 years of my life not knowing how to whistle. This video has taken me out of the dark and into the light. Thank you.

Every 2-3 years, I try this for 4-5 hours,
It's been going on for 13 years!
I still can't do it.

Awesome. Finally pulled it off after many hours of no success throughout the years. Got the two handed method for a few attempts / seconds after watching this video after practicing for an hour (and lost it after that), then got it somewhat consistently the next day (and even more consistently the day after). Then after figuring out my mistakes, got the "ok" single hand whistle somewhat consistently, although still need practice. Some pointers that worked for me:

- Practice in front of a sink with a mirror. You'll want to rehydrate and wet your lips, and you can see better where your finger placement is and how much of your tongue is folded.
- Make sure your fingers are keeping your tongue completely FLAT when the tongue is folded. It's very easy for your tongue to get out of position /or fold only partially.
- You may have luck by having the bottom of your tongue PUSH BACK against your fingers (but still make sure tongue is completed folded flat).
- Your fingers should NOT be jamming your tongue all the way to the back of your throat. Your folded tongue should be near the front of your mouth. Adjust how much of the tip of the tongue you're folding. For me, my tongue is folded about a finger nail's length.
- Your lips / mouth should only cover the top of your teeth, and then a little more. i.e. you shouldn't have to "stretch" to the max your mouth to as far back as you can to cover as much teeth as possible.
