How to mend a zipper on a bag

How to mend zipper on a bag without hastle?
If you have a a bag, backpack, jeans or a fleese with a broken zipper, even if you think they're beyond repair, don’t get rid of them just yet. Mending a zipper is easy and usually successful. With a little bit of guidance and some basic sewing skills you might be able to fix the zipper in just a few minutes, it's not a time consuming job at all. Give it a try before your favourite bag or a piece of garnment lands in the bin.

Thank you so much for sharing! I was able to fix the zipper on my makeup bag by following your video tutorial. 😚 After putting the bag in the washing machine, the zipper became a bit loose. Since I didn't have the specific tool you used, I attempted to fix it by applying some manual pressure with my hands. Surprisingly, it worked like a charm! A zipper on a boot had done this to me and I couldn't figure out how to save it, so YT to the rescue! Thank you a million times. Simply tightening the slider against the zipper element solved it! WOW It took me a couple of times with needle nose pliers until it worked, but it did finally succumb to my torture and is working once again, saving me time and money! Thank you again!

Awesome. Great explanation as to why it happens.
Instead of taking the zipper off, I squashed each sides with pliers in situ and it worked again. Might have to plier it more often, but seems like it did the job.

I'm so happy that I could almost cry, thank you. Wonderful work on illustrating what has to be fixed, too. It's good to understand what needs to done rather than just telling someone what to do.

I have some tall boots that have been sitting unworn for almost a year. I've avoided fixing them. Seeing the separated zipper brings back the time when my dad passed away, because I only had these boots as footwear when staying with my parents. I walked and ran with their pup in these boots, and being old, the zipper slide must have warped. I was especially disappointed because these boots have taken me through cities, forests and mountains in the United States and Japan but still look good. Sorry for a sob story, but a fix like this can mean a lot.

I realize now that I had other boots I may have been able to fix. Now I may be able to in the future if it happens again, rather than having to choose between taking them in for an expensive fix or throwing them away.
