I can't praise MX Linux enough for all it does right. It's just so good, has a very active and friendly forum, and I can run it on both my mid-2000s dual core laptop and my newer i7 laptop with almost no performance difference, except during web browsing an other such heavier tasks, of course.

I have to say the biggest reason that I chose MX over any other distro (and I've tried a ton) is the fact that it's KDE but it doesn't look dated. It looks clean and simple. In addition all of the tools that come preloaded. That is what attracted me to MX in the first place and the fact that it's Debian based (I'll take rock solid stable over new and shiny any day). I've been daily driving MX for about 2ish months now and absolutely love it. No more windows bloat crapware for me.

** Thanks for the video Tom! TimeShift will backup your system AND individual files both. LMDE is more of a workstation style OS rather than a daily driver. It would be a more fair comparison between Linux Mint vanilla and MX Linux. LMDE "rock mountain stable". It's fast and when you thin down the installed programs, it is a rocket ship in speed. It is great for users who wish to use it as a platform for work, video editing, audio editing, streaming platform, etc. So if you have an additional computer in your rack, load LMDE and know that it will always just work.

A official LMDE with Plasma Desktop would be the perfect distro for me.

MX Linux was the second distro I lived in for more than a week or so and I highly recommend it to a new user.
Can't remember if it was LMDE or Mint XFCE before that but I switched after it took what felt like ages to boot/reboot. Might be my hardware or I might've messed something up but MX Linux boots about as fast off an HDD as my current current Arcolinux install does off an NVMe drive.

At least that's my perception. I'm too lazy to boot each distro/drive a bunch of times with a stop watch to see which one boots faster.

The winning features for MX Linux are:

1. The Snapshot tool that allows you to make your own simple re-spin of the distro.
2. The ability to install alternate DEs from the Package Installer.
3. Offering Softmaker Office via Package Installer. This package is the best office suite for displaying Word docs.

The LMDE Software Manager is more polished than MX's Package Installer but both let you directly source Flatpaks.

Boot Repair when installed is useful if you have a boot failure on a multi-boot machine, and can still boot to MX Linux.

One thing I'd note about MX is their gray theming definitely reminds me of windows 95... :/

I have to say that their tools are very cool though !

Also I still wonder why these distributions don't simply directly commit to debian, I feel like the result would be amazing...

Would the boot repair function would be useful in a live usb? Then it would actually be very useful in case you need it!

I wish us to be more peaceful - e.g. change from Distro WARS to Distro Choice (or better as I'm German). Being a Newbie to Linux, having testet some distros on my laptop I'm currently switching from XP to Ubuntu Mate.
To me the choices are overwhelming and a mirror of our society - more split than united. Is devide et impera playing in the Linux field as well?

lol! It took me seeing this video to see that my beloved MX has an OS update! Downloading 19.2 DVD set NOW!. Linux Mint never really stuck with me. I used it to fix client's computers or for basic functionality testing of client's computers, but never actually tried using it as my daily driver. I did receive a computer with Linux Mint installed which I chose to keep just for the purposes of acclimating myself with something outside of MX. That PC is collecting dust right now..

I've used LMDE in the past, but I prefer MX Linux. While LMDE does replicate the user-friendliness of Linux Mint, it seems to be an afterthought. When Debian makes a new stable release, MX Linux has a new release based on it available in a few months. LMDE takes at least a year to do so. To be fair, the MX Linux team has the unfair advantage of not being responsible for a popular Ubuntu-based edition, MATE, and Cinnamon.
