#lipedema 'Should I Lose Weight Before Lipedema Surgery?' - Plastic Surgeon Answers

it's often easier to lose weight after you have your lipedema surgery. we find that some patients fail drugs like ozempic and weight loss surgery or are partial responders, however once they have the liposuction for lipedema surgery they find it easier not only to exercise but also normal diet allows them to lose weight as if they didn't have lipedema.

every patient is unique and has different results and responses to medications and surgery, but we recommend discussing with your lipedema surgeon prior to planning any weight loss before or after surgery.

Wish I could have seen this 39 years ago. All this time I've walked these steps of life thinking face of a goddess body from hell. Couldn't stand to look at all these lumps & dimples thinking it was cellulite & muscles that wouldn't develop regardless of how much I exercised and starved myself. Phentermine didn't even help... However Phentermine did put Me in the Insane Asylum. Said all this to say, Thank U for this news feed & thank U doctors for finally figuring this ugly fat issue out.

I'm 53, and I think I have stage 1 Lipedema. I've always had large thighs and calves, and I'm very active and muscular, but I can never lose weight on my thighs. Two years ago, I started getting pain in my legs, which no one can explain. It started out as a point on one knee, then spread to between the knee and ankle. Then the other leg. It progressed to both legs from groin to ankle. I'm a partial responder to Ozempic, so I gave that up. How do I get a proper diagnosis? The pain is constant and unbearable at this point. Sheets hurt. Getting dressed hurts. Sitting or lying down hurts. Standing, walking, and working out isn't too bad, but I'm feeling pretty low at this point. I'm post menopausal (sudden onset menopause at 34 from a complete hysterectomy), so I know my hormones are playing a role right now, lol.
