I went to the mexican grocer to get some of these for fajitas, and the guy in line behind me was excited to see a white kid buying them and asked me how I was planning on cooking them. He approved of my "cast iron skillet" response.

There is something very satisfying about the video, probably because it is simple, no drama, and the guy is talking in layman's terms.

I just realized, as salt makes non-sweet foods more delicious, if I were in a survival situation, I should probably have a salt shaker with me if possible to be able to eat non-delicious food

Oh my lord, you are SO right about those hair like spines! I had gotten a prickly pear and I ate it, I didn’t realize it had those small spines. WEEKS later, they were still in my skin and they had hurt so bad! They were in between my fingers, and my hands, and every time I moved my fingers I felt a sharp pain, and I couldn’t see what was in my skin.

Not even joking, I got lost in the desert for a day and I watched your cactus videos like, a month before and I somehow didn't die.

I use them daily in green smoothies with spinach, celery, coriander, and a slice of piña. Nopal gives the smoothie thickness. I also add some lemon juice. Yummy!

This cactus used to be very common in Australia too, however being an introduced species it quickly became invasive. The cactoblastis moth was introduced from South America and it pretty much wiped them out. Unfortunately that means one less available food source in Australia’s vast desert regions.

As a Texas resident, I naturally see these everywhere. I have never had it though, or the fruits. Next time i go to Pleasanton, maybe I will try it.
