Common prickly pear cacti are pretty much all safe to eat and not endangered, they will give you water in the desert, also if it is in the late fall and winter there is a chance a lot of cacti will have fruit on them, eat the fruit, they contain lots of water and electrolytes. All cactus fruits are edible.

Well, I have a question for you. It may not have water, but will it absorb and retain water for a long time? Can you compare its water retention quality with an tropical plant?

Try prickly pear bud. Absolutely packed full of water. Not laddle scoops by any means but if you eat it you will hydrate yourself. Folks been surviving in my part of the world for hundreds of years doing this. It's also a staple cuisine in Texas and Mexican food.

So what you should have said was, this one subspecies of endangered cactus has undrinkable water. There are plenty other ones that will do the job. I make a point not to eat cactus that resemble peyote plants anyhow. Stick with the abundant ones you know. If it looks weird and no other animals or insects bother with it, prolly a good sign to leave it be.

Find some nice prickly pear
Burn off the spines and enjoy. The red flower buds are especially delicious once you burn the hate off lol

So there's no water in any kind of cactus, right? Because that was one kind, what about the other ones?

So this video pretty much let me know I have no chance of survival if I am one day stranded in a desert. So what’s the next best source of water?

So then what should we do instead? Very informative video 🙄

You would be surprised how many people believe things because “they saw it in a movie or TV show” scene.

Movies are made to be entertaining and profitable. They are almost never made to be “accurate.”

The medical scenes in particular are full of tropes that are either ridiculous or dangerous.
