ONLY MASTERING TOOLS YOU NEED 🛠

The 3 tools you need to master ANY track 👇🏼

1️⃣ EQ - To get the balance of the track right

2️⃣ Compression - So you can glue it together. 4:1 ratio, slow attack, fast release

Now might be a good time to do a little more EQ

This is to open the track up in case you brought it down too much with compression

3️⃣ Limiter - This is to get the level you need. Aim for around -8 LUFS

And there you go!

The 3 basic tools you need to master any track 👍🏼

The loudness you need to aim for Is highly genre dependent, in my genre -8 ain’t gonna cut it. If you look at professional EDM tracks a lot of them are in the -6 to -3 range.

Straight to the point, as usual. Deeper and deeper afterwards sounds about right haha I always get lost when I'm being too nit picky about sound 😅

He forgot about saturation. Saturation is very important. It gives the vocals a 3D polish that sounds really good

If mastering to -8lufs, won't it get turned down by streaming services which are at -14lufs?

Why -8lufs at -1db as spotify wants -14 and Apple Music wants -16 so somewhere in between should be the sweet spot enless your doing individual masters for each service

Going too far over there recommend would add distortion when they hit it with there limiter to get it back to -14/-13

Question about EQ: If I have all project, all separated tracks (kick, snare, hat, perc, instruments etc) I can EQ one mixer channel track. Or we need EQ all, EQ master channel???

some will say 3db of gain reduction is cool some will say it's too much. Just use your ears

Do you ever use 2 limiters? What attack & release do you use on limiters?

elliottwilliamson

why -8LUFS. isn't -14 the target for streaming?

thanks. does a slow attack only affect kicks and snares if those two are the peak dB?
