When I was studying to become a physical trainer, the university sent me on a work placement to a place called Coanil. It is a place for people with different levels of autism, mental deficiencies, and developmental problems, not to mention genetic conditions. There I met Lucas. Lucas is the son of a Marine and is on the non-verbal autistic spectrum, meaning he didn't speak; he only sang. His physical activity in my class was fully adapted to his needs. No one knew if he could read or write; it was just him and his singing. When his grandfather died in March 2012, he was holding a crumpled piece of paper in one hand and a pencil in the other, and there was no way to take them from him. When his father came to pick him up, he gave him the paper. The father, as only a father can, looked at the paper, which had a poem on it thanking him for his care and love, saying not to cry because his grandfather had given him a book by Pablo Neruda, and that from it he had learned to read and write...

I love how this show, casted a beautiful light on those with autism. That it showed people with autism are incredible people! I know my daughter is and so are the kids I taught. We have much to learn from them! Every soul is precious!

😭😭😭 These actors were phenomenal in this series! Everything about Dr. Sean Murphey's life is a lesson, a therapy session, & an opportunity to grow & make yhe world a better place! I'm deeply saddened that it has taken it's final bow! This got me through when my mom was in the hospital. I was by her side 24/7 except when working. She eventually went home to be with the Lord & this series continued to give me joy that I so desperately was without.

I teach autistic children, elementary level. Each student is a surprise gift. Some come to me nonverbal, but leave a chatterbox, some come self injurious, but leave with the tools to manage the stress that causes this. They are on a unique developmental path. I love walking with them on a small part of their journey.
