If you're ever in a self-defense situation, do NOT act like you're macho to the cops.

I know, especially as a guy, it can be hard to admit you were scared or worried for your safety. However, you must express this to the cops! The only way self-defense can be held up in court is if the jury believes you were truly afraid for your safety. Telling the cops you weren't afraid of the other guy will only do the opposite for your case!

I wore the badge for a few years, and one thing I tell everybody, don’t talk to the police. Don’t say anything other than what you absolutely have to. Invoke your right to remain silent, to counsel and shut up.

the guy who walked out into the street was an undercover off duty cop who got mad that a child walking with her parents, dropped a wrapper on the street. he had to resign or got fired I believe. I've seen the full video of that incident

An edged weapon is considered lethal from 21 ft(7yds). If anyone is in the unfortunate situation to face a perpetrator w/any weapon (1) Defend yourself accordingly. (2) Call the police immediately when you are safe & can do so. (3) When the police arrive an start asking questions immediately invoke your right to counsel and remain silent.
Be warned cops will still try to ask questions, repeat your request for a lawyer and stay quiet.

You don’t talk to the cops without a lawyer, period. Easiest thing is to invoke your 5th amendment right
