Today is the first visit to the Wey and Arun Canal on the Surrey and West Sussex Border at the town of Loxwood. We take a stroll up the canal to see what's happening on the restoration leaving the canal centre and Loxwood high street bridge behind and up to the bonfire hanger section.

How did this canal help in World War 2? What did It have to do with the Canadian Army and the raids on Dieppe?

Why was it built for the napoleonic wars? Did it help to defeat Napoleon Bonaparte?

All drone footage shot with a DJI mini 4 Pro and a now broke Dji Mini 3 Pro

All camera footage shot with an Insta360 RS ONE Inch Lecica with Rode Go mic and Lavalier or a Insta360 RS Twin Edition with 4K boost lens and Boya Shotgun Mic. I now also use a DJI Pocket 3 with DJI mic

All Editing done with the Insta360 Studio, DJI Mimo and Final Cut Pro.

I use DJI Fly and Drone Assist to check for permissions to fly.

Huge respect to all of the Wey and Arun volunteers, none of whom will live long enough to see the completed project. A true labour of love in a spirit of hope.

Thanks for a fascinating update on this superbly engineered restoration project. Those locks really do look very impressive indeed.

Wey and arun WAS one of the most lost of lost canals. Its ongoing restoration is brilliant.

Heading north towards Guildford, other completed projects include a major road bridge (Compasses) giving access to Dunsfold Aerodrome (and the summit pound here had been fully now, by contractors). Then there are two lift bridges installed on a length of canal in water just south of Bramley. It's not yet navigable, but there is a circular walk, including part of the adjacent closed railway line that utilises the restored towpath.

Lovely to see your update down here. The bricks are quite a different colour here. All beautifully re constructed locks. Thank you.

Thank you for visiting ❤ They have had a lot of vandalism….. cables ripped out etc so they are now behind as the money put aside for some of this work had to be used to relay the cables 😩

like the drone shots, would be really nice to see the line of the whole canal as a drone video - same with other disused canals, especially the Rother Navigation (branch to Midhurst) and the Arundel and Portsmouth; both sadly lost to time, but these three southern routes would've been a canal boaters dream. I miss the Wey and Arun and hope in my own life-time it gets completed.

The towpath resurfacing featured has now been completed all the way to Gennets Bridge Lock (the last one shown).

You missed a trick not heading 'south' to the next lock below Loxwood (although you did mention it). Brewhurst Lock was restored twice. The second time was during the bridge construction when the water level in the pound (and hence the fall of Brewhurst Lock) was dropped by 1.8m. It now has a most strange appearance as one set of gates were left original height to show how much had changed in the second rebuild.

This looks really interesting, some beautiful areas and great work already done 👍 don’t fancy sitting on that seat. Looks as comfortable as the game of thrones seat 🤣

Winding hole, or wynding hole? Wynding I think since you wind the boats around.

I’m interested in canals and Napoleon (note spelling please) but I won’t watch this. If the author can’t be bothered to spell Napoleon’s name correctly, s/he's obviously so slapdash nothing else will be worth my time. It is frankly insulting to YouTube viewers to inflict such low grade material on them.
