Unbelievable amount of energy and entrepreneurship in this fellow, Napoleon. Someone else would've taken the situation and tried to do his best with what was given to him, but Napoleon immediately started organizing mass transportation of guns and trainings to better his odds, and he was just the artillery officer! I don't think people really appreciate how extraordinary and out of the box such effort is without truly being able to put themselves in a situation like that. Men like that, who you can trust to get the job done no matter what, who can pull water out of rocks, are truly extraordinary.

1793 is one of my favourite years in history - the threat of invading armies from all the great neighbouring powers and France facing imminent invasion and total defeat; entire regions in revolt and a nation in turmoil. Meanwhile, at the centre of the storm, some of the most legendary, titanic political and ideological struggles are taking place within Paris itself, wrestling for France's very soul. The fact that France emerged from this at all is amazing; the fact that Napoleon would rise during this era and make France the preeminent power in Europe for over a decade is quite simply incredible.

He was such inspiring figure for his soldiers. Nothing to do with the generals of the coalition who were aristocrats with no battle experience. In Toulon, he was leading his troops, in Arcole he was in first line, bearing the flag under enemy fire, at the battle of Jena, despite being nothing less than the Emperor of Europe, he was helping his soldiers pulling the canons to the top of the plateau and sleeping next to them the day before the battle instead of staying in his tent. A true inspiring leader.

Epic History TV you really have to fill the gap between Toulon and Austerlitz : the political situation from the Terror in 1793 to the Consulate in 1799, the first campaign in Italy, the campaign of Egypt, the second campaign in Italy and all the reforms Napoleon have done during the Consulate. It worths it!
