I'm making plans to convert a flat bar hybrid to drop bars, but I'm using dedicated long-pull brake levers and bar-end friction shifters. It's critical to use long-pull levers with V-brakes.

I have always fitted brake levers to the bars before fitting to the bike. Using a flat surface like you have done provides the most accurate way of positioning them evenly. If the bar rock then the levers aren't positioned correct. Simples!

I am 90% complete on doing the same to my Neon 4 but with Shimano 4720 [hydraulic] Tiagra as i found them on offer in Germany (the cost of levers, hoses and calipers even with taxes etc, they were cheaper than non hydraulic 4700 levers without calipers in the UK).

Great components! Drop bars are well on a light frame! Great conversion! I am working on a more vintage style gravel bike! Trek antelope with vintage drop down bars! Thinking about a brifter group set

I want to do something similar with a rigid Specialized bike I salvaged from my neighbour who left it out for the scrap metal man. The brakes are the major headache, insufficient clearance for short arm v brakes, seen a Spindatt vlog where he sets V brakes ultra close to the rim but I like your barrel adjuster hack. How do the brakes perform?
