I changed my Canyon Grizl Gravel Bike from a Drop Bar to Flat Bar Configuration.

I used the following components to make the change.
- Aluminum Riser bar 25degree
- Shimano Tiagra front and rear shifters
- Shimano Deore Hydraulic front and rear brake levers.

Not all Shimano flat bar shifters are compatible with the Shimano GRX components. As the GRX is similar to road components not mountain bike components.

Also, double check that the hydraulic brake levers are compatible with the GRX Brake Calipers.

Nice. I spent a lot of time and money upgrading my (triple) budget "dual-sport" bike to a lighter/faster gravel bike to keep up with my local fast pace grinders. I even repainted the bike in Army green. I get a lot of these guys looking it over while we're resting. I'm the only one (of about 10) that has a flat bar bike.... in this group. I can say that it is way better for some of these rough single track sections and rocky uphill climbs. So.. I like to see others that also modify their bikes. Thanks.

Congrats! I did the same with a Trek Crossrip 1, since I was not comfortable with the Drop Bar. Not a big issue, I added the Sora shifters for flat bar road bike, keeping the original Sora derailleur, and used Sora brake shifters as well. For the flat bar I adopted a Bontrager Comp (720 mm). Final result was a very comfortable, all-round bike.

In reality, this is more like a ridged mountain bike with slicks. I rode aluminum hardtail mountain bikes, with front fork, for many years and none were as stiff and responsive as this bike. Not to mention they had cantilever or v brakes and this is hydraulic disc. No kidding, is rides like a sports car.

Planning to do this. I currently have 1x12 grx drive train..I think I have an idea for the brakes swap but not quite sure about what shifter I need to use. Do you think mtb slx/xt shifters will work?

Good stuff. Thanks. I have a similar set up with 2x10. I have Dura Ace on the rear derailleur and 105 on front. Do you think these Tiagra shifters you are using will also work for me? It’s the only thing I’m finding with 2x10 and from Shimano specifically, not wanting to change any of the derailleurs.

On my way converting too. Bought my gravel with mechanical brakes, so I decided for a flat bar because hydraulic for gravel cost much than setting up flat bar components for my tiagra groupset. Thanks

I did this exact same thing with my Cannondale topstone 4. I came at it from a mtb perspective, tried the drops, holy crap did I hate them. 2 years later still find reasons to go out on the bike around town and on paths.

I just bought a gravel frame and I want to run flat bars. I wish this was a step by step how to guide. All I have is a frame, a blank canvas to turn into rolling awesomeness. The catch is this is going to be my road bike, gravel bike, and bikepacking bike and needs to be geared accordingly.

I’m actually planning a flat bar gravel build. I have some Hope RX4 calipers that where used with Ultegra brake/shift levers. My idea is for a flat bar with a dropper post and a FoxSC 50 gravel fork.
