That nod to the orange tan is "exceedingly" appreciated.

A couple of points that were not mentioned in this video.

1. Shimano MTB levers will work with their flat mount brakes. I use M7100 levers with 105 calipers, they work fine.

2. I wouldn't just go straight to a super long stem, without riding around for a bit first.

Bike twitchy-ness are not just due to stem length but about the whole frame geometry. My experience of making flat bar road bikes, is that twitchy-ness can = fun especially while commuting in an urban environment and that adding or removing 20mm of stem rarely has a massive effect on this. Also reach can be made similar to the hoods by choosing flat bars with very little back sweep, while getting wider bars will also make the bike less twitchy.

Fixed gear riders have been doing this for years. Aggressive track bikes with flat bars are fun as hell. It's nice that ppl are doing it with road bikes now.

Ok so did the flat bar/hybrid bike conversion and the everything you suggested was spot on. I ended up doing 130mm stem for my own preferences Shimano 105 groupset and carbon 740mm flat bar. And I have to say amazing!

This actually inspired me to do a conversion of my Specialized Tarmac SL6, it has rim brakes and nowhere near such nice components but it'll be great anyhow I think.

Have a Cube SL Road SL handling, great for climbing, Ultegra drive, DT swiss wheelset. Love it.

I saw a System six with the palace EF colours that had a flatbar and I have to be honest it looked pretty fun

Without changing all the transmission, you can get RS-700 shifters for 2*11 Road Shimano and still get a better gear range than with a one by.
Concerning brakes ; TRP, SRAM and Shimano I believe are now proposing flat mounts calipers with flat handlebar brake levers.

Love it! Needs narrow bars a set of bar ends for better aero position though

I really like that bike. It's close in concept to what I am currently riding, which is a performance hybrid. Carbon frame, 105 all-around and disc brakes. I am using wider tires, 32. It is surprisingly fast, faster than most people think, but less than a dedicated road bike. At some point, the difference between a road bike and a performance hybrid is getting blurred.

I use a 26ER MTB with 29ER MBR rims and 32C road wheels, works great!

I did this to my old Scott and threw flats on it to make it a better around town bike. It’s one of most fun bikes I’ve had and really enjoyed building it out. Currently in the process of changing it to all black components. Love to just smash around town in jeans like I did when I had a flat bar fixie years ago, just much less of an asshole about it

Agree on weight distribution and matching stem, but such a wide bars push rider into nasty habit of extending elbows as on 2:09 and 5:13 so one used to road bars will try narrow hands as on 2:13 and 5:18 to achieve shoulder width.
I'd say narrower flat bars or negative stem and casual narrow risers (to depart from typical road esthetics completely) to not look and feel like a DH on road.

I did the opposite! I converted a Giant FastRoad Commax 2017 to a proper road / cyclocross bike with drop bars. Had a bit of trouble with compatibilizing the 105 ergopowers with XT calipers (on Post-mount). But other than that, no problems!

That was my commuter for years, I had the handlebars upside down and back to front and fully wrapped with curly bar tape to the stem. No grips required just pad up the hand area with as many strips you desire then wrap.
