I own one of these now and bought one brand new in 1988 (that of course I sold a few years later). That list of facory settings is pretty much worthless, then and now IMO. This amp has so many tone shaping options with "push/pull" knobs and the additional EQ that things can go to hell pretty quick! But when you dial it in right, and that WILL take time depending on your guitar and speaker choices, this amp will deliver the goods! Nevemind comparing to anything in that era!

Hmmm congrats on making this amazing amp sound like shit

all the mesa boogie amps from that era came with those sample settings in the user guide when you bought one new.

A friend had a Mark III Coliseum head and cab loaded with EVs, and WOW was that thing loud! It was also heavy as a tank. He asked me and some other friends to help him load it for a gig when he was in a thrash band. Damn was it heavy! I got my own Boogie later that year, a 50 Cal Plus Combo which I loved. I prefered it for the more British tone and the Celestion it came with. The thing ripped the face off my Marshall 100 JMP stack. Played gigs and recorded with it for six years.

Man, i ordered a mkiii head and cab direct from boogie around 1988. It looked just like that except it was in cream. I opted for the simul class version and unfortunately never liked it much. I think the regular amps sound better. But i miss it and wish I had one today. That coliseum is insane.

I have 4 power tubes on my mark iii combo red stripe. Is the coliseum model supposed to have 6?

All Coliseums have K-series serial numbers. A purple stripe places the year at around 1986. I have a regular red stripe and can confirm these things are LOUD.

@ZIMM'S GUITARS Hi, how do you know when you've found a Coliseum? I can never see that it says it on the front or back. Only whether it's a Mk II, III, IV etc.
