I’m impressed that you negotiated the rent in one apartment and still didn’t feel obligated to take it when it didn’t meet your requirements. Good on you!

Appreciate the transparency and info shared in this video. For some reason most YouTubers refuse to disclose the price ranges and that can be frustrating.

Advertising one unit and showing you another is actually illegal. It happens so often but when I went to real estate school that’s at big no no. Definitely very illegal.

Apartment hunting in NY was one of the most stressful times in my life. My husband and I just moved from Miami, and although we wanted to initially be living in NY as we are both chefs and will be working in the city anyway, thus making it more convenient, it just wasn’t going to work out. We have a car and we’re also used to having laundry in-unit, and with the amount of laundry we do (uniforms), it’s a must. The prices (we also were in the $2-2.5k range but lower is always better!) were semi-doable but obviously not with all what we need. The last thing I want to do after a 10-12hr shift is walk-up five flights of stairs. And open the door to a shoebox. And then walk back down to do 2 loads of laundry. And move our car because it’s street sweeping day. Then again tomorrow.

We ended up moving to West New York, NJ as our non-negotiables were all met (laundry in-unit, dedicated parking, rent below $2k) and it’s only 20 minutes by bus.

not the shower being a foot above the floor!!! Imagine getting out the shower and busting your head 😭🥲 I’m so glad you went with the last apartment - I can’t wait to see how you decorate it. With NYC apartment hunting, you have to make at least one sacrifice and the brick facing windows are not bad at all compared to everything else on your checklist. Happy for you!

Congrats on the new apartment! The previous tenant's decor was like free staging for your broker 😄. Showcased the space beautifully. That brick wall gave me pause initially, but then I realized how comfortable I'd feel not having to worry about neighbors looking into my apartment from across the way.

Apt number 8 is a whole mood. You can just pop out of the shower to stir your dinner that's cooking on stove 😂😂😄 And it's a great conversation starter 😂

I recently spent some weeks in an apartment in Paris with such a brick wall situation but also enough light . You are going to appreciate the privacy this brings. It's actually great to have noone across. Congrats on the place. God how I miss New York....

Thanks so much for this video. I intend to move to NY by the beginning of 2022 and this helped me so much. I’m also moving there knowing absolutely no one and now it feels like I know someone there (sort of) lol! Subscribed! Best of luck back in the city!

Had a friend who got a great covid deal on a one bedroom but now she’s facing the problem of the inevitable rent increase now that things are going back to normal!

Appreciate the disclaimers. Thank you for being real, so people don’t have this unrealistic picture of living in the city

I never comment but I’ve learnt so much about New York in this video, I’ve always lived in London and although the prices are expensive here, I am shocked by the prices there. Also very shocked that having washing machines is not normal, we have all of ours in the kitchen and going to the laundry is not a thing, you can barely find one.

I also lived in a 6th floor walkup in Soho, 2 bedrooms! with the elevated shower in the kitchen, water closet (pull the chain and the water in the wooden box above came flushing down the pipe) and one sink in the apt. It was $700/month (but it was also in 1983!)

Super realistic right off the bat. You’re really providing an informative service rather than making it all seem easier than it is. It seems there are a ton of young professionals moving into NYC post pandemic, so availability is limited.

Getting an apartment in NYC is literally almost the same process as getting a house in the Midwest, it’s so crazy. Great video though ! 😁
