Did Darth Vader's past cripple his path to ultimate power? Once hailed as the Chosen One, Darth Vader’s potential in the Force was interrupted on the fiery grounds of Mustafar. Engulfed in flames, Vader emerged more machine than man, something unforeseen by his master, Darth Sidious. However, Sidious believed Vader’s limitations were a consequence of his psychological turmoil.

Despite becoming one of the most powerful Sith Lords, Vader was haunted by the memories and regrets of his past choices. Struggling to reconcile his current life with his earlier principles had shackled his full potential. Sidious continuously tested Vader, always ready to replace him with a new apprentice. Even the Prophets of the Dark Side understood Vader was too tethered to his Jedi past to fully embrace the power of the dark side. But Vader was still determined to master the Force. He immersed himself in the dark side's power, believing it was for the good of the galaxy.

This is exactly how it went down for Vader in the Legends continuity. He was strong, but even Sidious was aware that Vader could not reach his full potential. Not necessarily because of the physicality of his injuries, but the mental strain in his mind.

The fact that Sidious did it on purpose actually was so he could limit Vader's Force powers and force(pun intended) Vader to adapt to his cybernetic limbs and overcome his limitations. Awesome video btw.

Once Vader found out Sideous lied to him, that changed Vader tremendously

It was intentional. Didn't palpatine do it all on purpose so Vader couldn't surpass him?
