Now, in terms of size, packaging, and overall value, rest assured, there will indeed be a direct successor to the CX-5 hitting the roads in the future. One potential name that's been floating around is the Mazda CX-40, positioning it neatly between the CX-30 and CX-50.

Under the hood, we can expect to see the familiar 2.5-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine and the punchier 2.5-liter turbocharged petrol engine making a return, possibly with some tweaks for enhanced performance and efficiency.

But here's where things get interesting: rumors suggest that Mazda might introduce a fully hybrid 2.5-liter petrol-electric powertrain, taking a page from the Toyota RAV4's playbook. And who knows? We might even see plug-in hybrid and all-electric variants down the line.
