5 minutes in and I still don't know what is going on...

So offensive Apple does not provide a simple iOS version for older gear.

I really can't shake how excited this made me. I had assumed my iPad to be retired and only good for reading comics with an old version of ComicZeal. Now it's back on my desk as a primary part of my layout. And I already had TouchOSC for Ableton, I never imagined using it this way!

Fantastic video! Just to be clear, Keyboard Maestro is a one-time purchase for a specific major version (currently 9.x). Major upgrades are paid upgrades. This ensures we are working as much for existing customers as to expand the customer base. You are, of course, under no obligation to purchase the upgrade, so this means you can keep what you have purchased and not have to pay a subscription, but also that we will still be around working on improving Keyboard Maestro and adding features for when you choose to upgrade.

How great is your content? This is literally repurposing a device otherwise left to rot. I love this!

You can use as an infotainment head unit in an old car. I bought a $30 iPad mini 1, an aux plug in transmitter for Bluetooth, a cig lighter plug phone charger. I run google maps (infinitely better than my car maps. Can run gps navigation by using mobile hotspot from phone. Bluetooth music from phone to car stereo. All under $50.

Heres the biggest iPad advice I could give anyone. Download all the apps you would ever need or use right away on the iPad you have now. This way, when it ends up going obsolete 10 years down the road, you will already have all the apps you need downloaded. Sure some of them might not work, but most of them still will.

I still use my iPad 2 for reading books and as a clock. ❤️

Super late to the game here but I was just looking up what I could do with some of the old iPads I have lying around. As a computer technician clients sometimes give me there old iPads when I help them configure their new ones. This is brilliant. A steam deck equivalent. I just hope the apps are still available. Cheers man, subbed.

I still have my 2012 ipad running with a few limitations but there are 2 things I've always liked: its heavy smooth-solid glass feel and its camera as I still have some of the best photos I ever took in B&W. I practically lived with it and it's still on my bookshelf.
Be nice if someone could explain the Touch OSC and Keyboard Maestro for plain people (reviving historic iPads for dummies)
Thanks

Great video thanks. I bought the gen 1 recently thinking it would work because it’s cheap, but I thought it was waste of money because it couldn’t do much. I thought it was like android because no matter how old a android is you can still use it. I don’t understand why apple doesn’t go same way as android does. Because I have very old android tablet and it still works

@slacker stuff- Thanks for sharing, I think I'll look into installing the Keyboard Maestro on my iPad 1st Gen. I've seen many articles asking the question, is the iPad 1st gen still usable in 2021/22. I honestly can say, it depends, on the person and what their needs are and what they'll be using it for. I have a iPad 1st Gen, and my needs differ from those of the younger generation. I hear many say that they cannot take pictures, log onto Facebook, til tok, etc.. And the web browsing is slow, there's no denying that. But for me, I don't use social media as much and I use a actual camera to take pictures. Actually I'm old school, I shoot on 35mm film - that's a story for another topic. Anyway, I like to point out the usefulness of my iPad 1st Gen.. First, the bluetooth works, I'm able to use the home sharing option on iTunes to watch movies on my iPad via bluetooth., watching in a different room all the while streaming on my iPad first gen. Second, I have a sketch app in which ( being an artist) I can draw and even create storyboard thumbnails on the go with a compatible stylus. Third, it makes for a good alarm clock. Netflix and Amazon Prime still work. And I can send and receive mail on my mail app. My kindle app works as well as the iBooks app- which is great for books, comic books and magazines. My calendar is synced with my iPhone as well as my older and newer iPad as with Kindle. I guess to each their own. I'm keeping my 1st gen, mainly because its the first iPad created. I don't need all the fancy bells and whistles to use my iPad.. To me, its still functional. A little bulky, but I like that. if you're considering bringing new life to your old iPad, just check eBay or amazon. Or go to ifixit.com for a replacement battery and to get tips on replacing the battery or find a local repair shop.. DOn't trash your old iPad, it's still useful, and its a testament on the quality of Apple products. Anyway, great video.. I didn't mean to go on and on... :)

I have an iPad 2 . I removed ALL PICs . I installed a few games and the oldest version available on the Apple Store for Netflix and now it belongs to my toddler.

I have a iPad 1 32gb which I got from my uncle in 2012. I used that iPad from 2012-2018 Even tho I got a iPad mini 1 in 2017 which I used until 2021. I was little when I got that iPad 1 but it’s probably one of the most used iPad 1’s in the world

This is a great idea for re-purposing those old tablet devices! Much bigger than a dinky little touchbar Apple gives you on the Macbook nowadays too.
