This is quite tricky as fashion comes and goes! Stay away from trends and go for the classics! Great tips btw Courtney😊❤️!

Thank you for the video! I appreciate you brought up leather jackets being appropriate for every age. I'm 48 and live leather jackets. I don't get why some of the other you tube fashion channels say we shouldn't be wearing them. You Rock!

The best part about a quality leather jacket is that over time they become even better looking as the patina and wear sets in.

You were pretty much on point with your assessment, it’s the difference of buying sustainable vs disposable or quality vs quantity, especially when it comes to a suit, add in a quality high collar dress shirt.

I 100% agree with you about a great fitting suit! I feel elevated when I wear it and get treated better. Shoes are SO important as well. People do notice! Your list is great! I'm a grown man and it is easier to purchase these. As a student, I didn't have this knowledge or $ hahaha, but these are great things to work towards. Even a young man should get one great fitting suit for an interview.

I'm glad you said that about leather jackets. I'm so tired of hearing so called 'celebrity menswear stylists' on Youtube saying men over 40 should NEVER wear leather jackets. If it's the right type of jacket, wore in the right way, it can look great. You just got a new subscriber.

Great advice !
A bad pair of shoes can absolutely ruin the look of a nice Suit !!
Exactly right . . . fragrance does not need to be expensive. There are many designers that make quality fragrances under $100.00 USD. I never leave the house without a spritz. I find that fragrance lifts my spirits and adds a finishing touch to my wardrobe choices.
Thank you for sharing !

I bought a Hart, Shafner & Marx suit in 1984 for $350, which was $150 over my budget at the time. That suit today would be about $900.

Still looks great and yes, I can still wear it. You would think I bought it last week.

I wore it in my regular rotation for almost 20 years before changing careers where casual wear is called for, but still pull it out for church or when needed.

All you young guys, pay a little more for quality to the point it hurts the wallet a bit. In two weeks, that pain is gone, but the suit or shoes will last.

I couldn’t agree more with the leather jacket pick. I regret all the cheap leather jackets that I use to buy(which broke down in less than 6 months) when I finally saved up and got something of quality, 3 years later and it looks even better.

I think a wool overcoat and a good watch are both absolutely timeless, must-haves.

I've experienced with a lot of things over the past years (my budget has been changing as well). Now that I'm entering 30, I'd say my list is:
-well fitting suit
-nice overcoat and yeah, leather jackets (I have two black and suede and they were totally worth it, but you don't need to over pay, would rather get a MTM done while traveling to ie Argentina than paying for the name, don't pay for marketing).
-Shoes and boots, make or break an outfit.
-could put perfume here but you may get 1 good and the play around with less expensive ones.
-watch is personal, if you're a watch guy go for it, whatever you buy, use it.
-if you need one: a good tie, I rather have 2 good ties (ie silk madder, 5 or 7 fold over 10 different shiny ties)..
- whisky
On the contrary I wouldn't spend much for the following (I have and it wasn't worth it for me) mostly because I wear the things I buy and some break or tear regardless of the price (the groin area on my jeans) or they get stained.
-shirts and t-shirts. Get an ok shirt with a proper collar and take it to the tailor, you don't need to spend hundreds at all. Work out and the cheapest t-shirt will look ok.
- trousers, chinos, jeans, shorts etc. Unless is a more durable flannel which you don't use all the time. All of them break at the groin for me and the cheapest pair still last 2-3 years, just don't overwash your cloths at high temperatures.
-trends unless its intentional.
-dont buy brands, don't pay for the marketing bills. Would rather get artisans to do the stuff (ie a nice leather bag) and it will still be cheaper than a designer ones.

Perhaps what I learned the most is do your research in what defines quality, what makes a good pair of shoes or a suit or a fragrance. Once you understand what is behind and what you're paying for, it becomes much more clear in where to pay up and where you're being ripped off.

There’s a timeless and almost universal code to men’s fashion. A Cartier watch, a dive watch, Ray Ban aviators, a navy blue polo, a white linen button up shirt, a pea coat...these things looked good 60 years ago, they look good now and they’ll still look good 60 years from now. And once you get older you get funneled into those things anyways if you still want to look sharp so you might as well spend the money when you’re young and invest in those things early. And I think there’s something to be said for spending the money on a durable thing and maintaining it and mending it and building an emotional attachment to it anyways.

As a man that’s ditched high street shops (“mall” brands) since my late teens and invested more in long term items. I think it’s worth looking at brands between high designer brands and fast fashion. Some of my favourites are All Saints (especially for leather jackets) the Kooples, Ted Baker, Aries’s, Paul Smith, Acne and even I got deals on Moschino and Commes des garçon . They ar expensive but you can easily save for or get on sale, if you stay away from fast fashion. They are not like crazy money but still quality that stands out and they are all brands that are different from the typical CK, Ralph Lauren, Diesel or the lower end Armani that you see everywhere and have a slightly dated look but they do have things too I feel like just stay away from the super logo stuff.

Great list...I agree that shoes are a very important piece of the puzzle that can be easily overlooked. Sharp shoes = on point!

good, sensible advice. invest in quality when it matters, spend less when it does not bring much more

I bought myself an ironheart selvedge 21oz indigo raw jeans they are amazing. They are expensive but so worth it. They feel like armour and feel like they will last for decades. They are that tough. they are a bit hard the first week or so to break in, but they get so comfortable because the fabric quality is just that good. So either buy 4 -5 cheap ones or one good one that lasts a long long time. and eventually, get their own unique fade patterns on them. So my daily wear now is dark denim selvedge jeans. White t-shirt and off white or light blue oxford shirts. shoes dr martens for me and can spice that up by what kind of docs I have on. The leather gloves were a brilliant idea. never thought about that. PS. Most selvedge denim comes to market as "raw" denim, which means it has not undergone any harsh chemical processes after being woven. This maintains a stronger fibre quality and ensures production is environmentally friendly. i always used a topcoat in the winter and a blazer in the summer but a good leather jacket might be a good idea too. I am 47.
