This is a squared away man. He took a month's pay to buy a watch out of respect for his father. Kept his own watch safe and secure during his lifetime and then gives a real and honest reaction to the unexpected appraisal amount. Much respect.

This is officially my all time favorite Antiques Roadshow video ever! This sweet man spent a LOT of his hard-earned money on a gift for his Dad and one for himself. He had no idea what he was doing yet thankfully he trusted his Sargent's recommendation. His reaction was genuine and adorable. Speeches indeed!

he spends more than a month's salary on a gift to his father.

"if you've told me $1500 I would have been happy" I'm just so happy no one ripped this man off

Very heartwarming to see seniors like him get a win when it matters most

This is one of the great YouTube videos . A quaint old man, the humility of buying a watch for his father and the true shock of its value today.

Hats off to that man. Real stuff. Clutch move keeping the box/papers. Also, jeez dude who was his sergeant? That guy deserves much respect. Knew what the world would know 20 years in advance.

This has to be one of my favorite appraisals and reactions. It's always the people who are so genuinely shocked at their items' values that get me the most. He seemed like such a sweetheart too: he bought the watches because his Sergeant told him to! He also bought one for his dad! *love*

I've watched this one and the other vet's Daytona video so many times. It's always awesome to see kind down to earth veterans find out about their cherished item value

Is it just the ageing that adds to the genuine felt humility of this wonderful man? These traits seem rare nowadays.
