Hungry for something quick, easy, and super nutritious? A fan of seafood — and portable meals? Then it's hard to go wrong with canned salmon. And while you could pop open a can of the stuff and dig in straight away, canned salmon is actually incredibly versatile — and, when done right, it can help you turn a boring dish into a tasty and healthy meal (for a fraction of the price of fresh seafood, at that).

Like all pre-packaged foods, though, there's a pretty significant gap between the highest-quality salmon and the stuff you should probably leave in the canned goods aisle. But fear not, as we've thrown together an extra helpful guide that'll help you navigate the many popular brands out there. In fact, we tried 13 canned salmon brands and this was the best!

Remember: Pacific and Alaskan salmon is almost always wild. Atlantic salmon is virtually always farmed.

Canned salmon is great! However, you cannot compare Pink Salmon to Red Salmon. They are two totally different fish with totally different qualities. The flesh of the Pink is pink and the flesh of the Red salmon is the most RED of all salmon and trout. The Red's flesh is also much firmer and has a bigger flake than the Pinks. The diets of the Pink salmon is totally different from the Red's. Comparing Pinks to Reds, is like comparing Skipjack tuna to Mackerel.

The bones and skin are very healthy for you and in canned salmon it just turns to powder when you eat it. It’s a great source of calcium. I want it in my canned salmon.

Sockeye salmon always tastes more "salmon-y" than pink salmon. Sockeye salmon was what we always had when I was growing up.

I like the Walmart salmon Chicken Of The Sea 5 oz boneless skinless pink. You don't need a can opener it has a pull open lid. Perfect for traveling. Combine it with Walmart 1 minute Brown Rice single serve and a Rico Single serve cheddar cheese, of course the spices Diced onions and garlic and others. Microwave in a soup bowl and you are eating healthier than any fast food.

I love canned salmon and I’m not a canned food fan! It’s so good and versatile and much cheaper than fresh! Yum!

Actually the canned Atlantic salmon at Sam’s club is the best in my opinion. It’s actually fillets, in tact, but small fillets. Delicious!

OT: Important is "pink salmon" is chum! Oh wait, there is a different Salmon named chum as well! So confusing, but seriously "Pink Salmon" frozen, is what I get, about $6-$8 per lb. I carefully nuke it (each 4oz portion or so, but usually two at a time) in water to cover it, for about 1 min per side with a minute break in between. If it's seems to be raw still, a 30 second shot, break, and another 30 second shot if needed. I love it with Bob Evans Macaroni and :)

Demmings red sockeye salmon is by far the best canned salmon out of the any of the ones listed. Its pricey though.

Rubenstein's is all we buy. I tried the Bumblebee is a pouch but won't do that again. Most of these I've never heard of & they're not available in the wilderness of NW CT.

I've got the Kirkland. Zero bones, solid pieces. Not very pink at all.
