A United Launch Alliance heavy-lift Delta 4 rocket thundered away from Cape Canaveral early Sunday, boosting NASA's $1.5 billion Parker Solar Probe into space on a daring seven-year mission to "touch the sun" with repeated trips through the star's blazing outer atmosphere. BBC News' Michael Cowan reports.

I didn't know the sun had an atmosphere or a surface. That's really interesting.

I like how they are doing this mission, however NASA is definitely a cover up for the real space technology. People, do you really think that chemical rockets, which we have had since the 1940’s, are still all we still have in terms of space travel technology? I know solar sails and nuclear powered space craft exist, which are far better at traveling in space, with notable percentages of the speed of light, like with 10 or even 40 percent of the speed of light being attainable but these are the publicly announced space technologies that supposedly are the best in terms of space propulsion technology. However, what the military and the government may be hiding is something that right now, most people would be in awe about. Most scientists don’t recognize the existence of anti-gravity or FTL or even wormhole travel technology as something that exist now, because most of these scientists don’t work or know what goes on in the dark depths of our governments on Earth. But after you look into it, you slowly realize the supposed “ alien UFOs” in the sky are actually mostly secret governmental craft, being designed behind close doors. But anyways, I do hope they reveal more to the public soon, as NASA (Never a Straight Answer) is really just the smoke screen part of the real space program. Think Trumps Space Force, but much bigger. Operation Space Warden does exist.

It doesn't matter how much you know about it, or how much money you waste studying it, theres NOTHING you can do about it! OR TO IT! GONNA BURN UP ANYWAY!

Exciting mission... those guys know more than me about space travel, however a white reflective coloring on the heat shield, and a shade design didn't instill much confidence in me for its ability to handle the coming environment 😎

Wait a sec ! There's such a thing as a material for space craft hull capable of withstanding the sun's tremendous heat at such close range ? I think of the strong burn on my exposed head here on earth on really hot days...

Probably would work the best if we went to the sun at night! :)

I hope trump doesn’t think we can complete a whole space force by ourselves (and even if we can it wouldn’t do as well if we teamed up as a world instead of a country🤦🏻‍♂️)

Haha will fly 93 million miles away and can stand the heat generated from close range sun.

How do you even test for factors of that scale?

More NASA gags to fool the unthinking mundane masses.
These guys are hilarious.
How do you even replicate the temperature of the sun to determine viability of material.

No one asks themselves these things??
