NASA marks historic Voyager launch

NASA is celebrating a major milestone for space exploration. The Voyager 1 spacecraft was launched 40 years ago. The probe and its cousin Voyager 2 are still going strong, and are the farthest-travelled and longest-serving spacecraft in history.

This masterpieces are having about 10 years of power remaining without any of the instruments. But even after the probes power down, they'll continue speeding through the cosmos for immeasurably long peroid of time, making one lap around the Milky Way every 225 million years.
