The Complete Story of Final Fantasy V

Welcome to the complete story of Final Fantasy V, the game that many overlook when singing the praises of the SNES Final Fantasy games. Caught in the middle between Final Fantasy IV’s and Final Fantasy VI’s unmistakably dramatic narratives, many are overly eager to dismiss the game’s more light-hearted tone.

But don’t be fooled, since along with an ambitious job system, which affords players some fantastic game play options and greatly adds to the game’s replay value, Final Fantasy V also features a story worthy of the Final Fantasy name. An epic tale of adventure and a commitment to humour which has left its mark on the Final Fantasy series in more ways than one.

But anyway, I’m Pétur from Birds of Play, and in this video, I hope you’ll join me as we revisit the complete story of Final Fantasy V. It’s going to be quite a journey, but I hope you’ll stay with us, every step of the way.

In my playthrough, Krile and Lenna died in the final battle, and I was so confused if they had actually died since it was a game mechanic that could've been solved with a Phoenix Down. 😨

While not the best FF story wise, for me it is by far the most fun to play Combat Wise. It's job system is addictive.

Since Galuf, Xexat, and Kelgar all became the rulers of their respective homes, it always makes me wonder where Dorgann was from.

The way Galuf and Xexat joke about being kings, I kinda inferred they were not always royals and just ascended to their respective thrones because they were the only ones qualified to after leading their world to victory.

Galuf's world is so much more wild, sparsely populated and less interconnected than Bartz's, I always figured ExDeath REALLY effed that place up the first time.

I know, some devs of the FF series consider FFV as the best one, even though thats clearly not the case, since those games are just story rich games, for combat mechanics and jobs/classes FFT is a much better designed game and it still provides good story.

However, thats easy to say TODAY, as back in the days FFV had quite more impact for the development of the series, which is why i assume its the devs favorite game.

FFV is much older than FFT, though. Its like in term of system evolutions of jobs comparable to Castlevania II: Simon's Quest to Symphony of the Night to create that Metroidvania vibe, those devs tried to do something new, but only in a later game it really become popular and successful enough for an international release.

I am just a very honest and direct person, and say this, FFV has deserved a way better main story arc and narrative, the small story parts and themes are allright, though, But after the insanely great FFIV, which is my favorite story game of the classics, i am surprised this was all they could do.

Think EX-Death is an quite intersting villain in concept, similar to the tree demon witch in "A chinese Ghost Story" this character just could have done way better and i am a bit confused by Square Enix decisions to give the allready very excellent FFVII story altering remakes, but not FFV that really needs one.

Guess as its common in game development a lot of the story script was scrapped during development as FFIV and FFVI stand completely out on the SNES system or pixel remasters.

Btw, i am the only one who thinks, the PSP versions are probably the best ports of the classics?

Thx for youre story of FF videos . I wached all of them and played some of these games myself. Some of them over 20 years ago.

I have a big thing for mythology, living in the alps in a region where one of the oldest known european myths is coming from, that talks about a crystal uniting the worlds!!!
I see Final Fantasy Vs story as the most mythological coherent of them al, maybe followed by IXs story. All topics are in the right place i guess. The Dragons and their role as guardians, the void, the two worlds melting, and the sick tree, that becomes kind of a leviathan but is actually a mirrow of the wrong choises of human kind.

Youre Storytelling is just great and i would watch other content of you guys from other games as well. In my opinion the videos could even be longer, i speak only for myself, but i was never bored for a second and could also have had more breaks, with only music playing for example. I had to press pause sometimes to digest the information. (partly because its not my mother tongue)

All in all these videos are the best videogame retellings i heard. i don´t know what you guys learned as profession but you could be storytellers.

Very underrated game as well, much like 8 being caught in between two extremely popular ones. As someone with a complex relationship to gender, characters like Faris have always meant a lot to me, so 5 has a special place in my heart.
