Amy and Rory: Doctor kept them together.

Clara and Danny: Doctor broke Clara. She was very different after Danny’s death. She invited death like on a subconscious level she wanted to die. Perhaps she thought that this version of the Doctor did not come out just right. If she puts herself in danger the Doctor will sacrifice himself, save her and regenerate into someone else. Perhaps hoping for both.
