This video perfectly shows how powerful gallium can be. First you can see this guy pouring it onto his MacBook, and moments later he’s able to literally peel off his aluminum laptop using just his fingers. But gallium is non-toxic, so you can have it on your hands no problem. But when it meets aluminum, it forms an alloy that penetrates the aluminum oxide passivation layer, and messes up the metal’s crystal lattice structure, making it extremely brittle. This phenomenon is known as the gallium-induced structural failure and the same result happens if you used mercury.
