This is a perfect example of something being a glass cannon. Obsidian is super duper sharp and packs a punch in the operating room as a result, but it's also super duper fragile.

It's also kind of brittle in a way, because it's still glass. Macuahuital blades would often snap off during use, and obsidian tipped spearheads and arrowheads would sometimes shatter upon contact with steel armor. That being said, they things an obsidian edge could do before breaking was insane. There are Spanriard accounts of Aztec warriors loping the head off of a horse with their Macuahuital. For those who don't know what that is, it looks like a tricked put cricket bat that has obsidian shards embedded around the entire side of the "paddle".
