[OLD] How to Install PS3HEN on Any PS3 on Firmware 4.90 or Lower!

PS3Xploit brings homebrew to all models of the PS3 in the form of HEN, short for Homebrew Enabler! PS3HEN works on ANY retail model of PS3 as long as your console is on firmware 4.90 or lower. This tutorial will walk you through the process of installing 4.90 HFW, a hybrid firmware build of 4.90 which will allow you to install and run the required files. After being installed, this will cover the actual installation of PS3HEN, homebrew installation, and some quick tips on how to use PS3HEN!

Although this tutorial was recorded on firmware 4.88, the installation process is the same on higher firmwares as long as all of the software needed has been updated. The only difference would be a higher version of HFW and PS3HEN would need to be used. If the video title and description shows a higher firmware number than what is shown in the video, that means PS3HEN and HFW have been updated for that specific version.

Keep in mind this is not the equivalent of a full custom firmware (CFW) or jailbreak! PS3HEN does not have the full access CFW contains, but much of the functionality people are looking for is available on PS3HEN. Not all homebrew will work on PS3HEN, some of it will require either resigning to 3.55 or will need an update from the author.

As a final warning directly from the PS3Xploit team themselves: DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES ENABLE FSM (Factory Service Mode) OR INSTALL CCAPI ON A PS3 WITH PS3HEN!

Just wanted to give a tip to anyone who had this issue as well. if the initialization fails set the alternative option for hen as the home page and the delete the cache and history etc. then make sure confirm browser close is off and try it then. it should default to the enabler as the home and voila

For those of you having issues doing the initializing. This is what worked for me. After trying the alternative download, and it says failed, I went back and selected the regular installer, which then ended up working. Try those orders.

Hi, thank you very much for the video.
It was very helpful. I only had issues with initialyzing the HEN from the ps3 web browser.
Tried both methid (normal and alternative) for about 5 times each with failure on all attempts.
Looked online and found those 3 recommendations which I tried

-Remove any disk in the PS3 (I had a game inserted)
-Make sure the time and date of the system is valid (Mine was out by a couple of hours + wrong year)
- Have only a single tab open (for some reason, opening the link from the top opened a new tab on the right. Closing the unacessary tab)
Worked on my second try with the regular enabling of HEN

Thank you for the video, it was a huge help. However i could not initialize HEN installer, neither methods worked. It was always failing even after deleting cookies, cache, etc. The solution was to download the HAN support files and HEN package file manually through PC and do the rest manually (as described on the ps3xploit forum - "[Tutorial] [PS3HEN] The Great Ps3 HEN All in One Guide" thread. So if you are facing problems you might combine this video with the official tutorial :) good luck

only had an initialization error when going to install ps3hen from the web browser, but worked immediately after retrying to initialize. you’re the goat mario! didn’t even need recovery mode or anything i’m surprised it went as smoothly as it did.

Btw if anyone is having issues with the ps3 not recognizing the file for the update, it’s recommended to immediately unplug your controller when it’s checking in recovery mode. The ps3 will try to check your controller instead of the drive sometimes.

And for people having any issue I had, hear me out...
If you have ps3 4.88 FW the ps3 may tell you that it's up-to-date and can't install the HFW 4.88.1. But don't worry because you can install it. Just watch the part at 12:40 on the video. You'll see how to install it in recovery mode.
Another issue is initializing the HEN. It's recommended to install it through the alternative way.
